Go back to basics. Fundamentals. Don't think of it as a must-win-to-survive situation, think of it more like what-is-required-of-the-position-right-now situation. Works for me.

I was reading this thread:

And it made me wonder how people get out of a chess slump.
Playing online I think it is not as vital since, if you have the self-control, you can turn off the computer and come back when you feel better.
But what about tournaments? The OP on that thread was concerned that he may be in a slump now that is going to affect his upcoming tournament play.
What are some good ideas for overcoming this before and during tournaments? Or even in a single game where you just can't seem to muster up some brain activity.
