I hope the current server overload isn’t caused by this issue 🥴

It's not

It's possible a malicious ad is being served by the third-party ad network. Do you you notice a specific ad just before it happens by chance?

sometimes it happens when I'm midgame, and during game there are no ads, so most likely not the reason.

And you have tried other browsers with the same result?

if you scroll up, someone else who uses google also has the same issue so it's most likely not the browser

From what I am seeing is the problem came and went. At one point in time, in the past, there may have been a threat. However, you are STILL getting redirected. The person using "Google", I assume you mean chrome, could get the same problem on their browser.

The point isn't to isolate one bad browser. The issue is to see if YOU on a 2nd browser gets the same results. So if you used Microsoft Edge for example and got the redirect, it's possible you WON'T get the redirect on Chrome. Vice versa for the other person who used Chrome.

Just try it. See if another browser FOR YOU gets the same redirect. I don't think a malicious ad if that is what caused it is around anymore. I used to get phishing email, and after I reported it the same thing happened. It went to a dead page.

If you do try another browser, and it doesn't redirect, then the issue is with clearing your first browser in some way. Then, if that temporarily works but then reverts back, you have something recreating it on your device.

So far, I see no one claiming they are getting redirects now for the first time to the .cc address.

I was the one who said I had it on google chrome, so I tried this by using edge and after about 5 minutes of playing it shows the redirect on my bookmarks in the same way chrome is so it's not a browser specific problem.

I'd try the Offline Scan, to be more sure. It scans your computer for extraneous/malicious code, outside of Windows. Supposedly the Offline Scan is meant specifically to deal with malware ...

The claim has NEVER been that it is browser specific.

It shouldn't be going to your bookmarks. Are you sure the second browser didn't import the addresses? I would download a popular browser you haven't put on your device and make sure it doesn't import bookmarks. See if the redirect appears on a fresh NEW and DIFFERENT browser you haven't had on the device since the problem occurred.

Yes I was just confirming what you had said before in reply to that comment from earlier. Also it appears that I was mistaken with the bookmarks with the title of this forum post (I didn't scroll over enough so I thought that somehow it was automatically saving to my bookmarks). I also did an offline scan and played a couple games and so far I haven't gotten anything just yet. I also turned off malwarebytes for the time being just to see if it is still happening. Still will try a couple more to make sure though

Do you know if it is only happening in Australia or happening all around the world.

I think that this stage we won't know because theres not enough people who have had this issue and so far it looks like only us 2 have had this problem. In saying that I think I may have fixed the problem

I tried doing this suggestion so see if this works for you

Recently in the past 2 or 3 days, chess.com randomly redirected me to the website https;//hoproutepoint.cc

This is what the website looks like (I use opera gx):

The full link is this:

I searched about it and the results said the website was malware related.

Also, I was redirected to that website once when I was midgame in this game, move 7 as black:
https://www.chess.com/game/live/122000867490

Has anyone else had this problem?

Can someone explain to me what is happening?

Well I use google chrome and I was getting this exact issue since a couple days ago where it seems like I only get this when in the middle of a chess game. For me I used a malware scanner and it pointed me to C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe as the problem (So its pointing me to google chrome itself?). I'm pretty lost about this too

I just noticed this too it seems that only chess.com does this redirect to the official chess.com website it doesn't do the same with anything else. When I try to remove this it comes back again

I think it might be the name of this forum, see what happens when you try to bookmark the home page.

What happened?

All gamers were rounded up for interrogation.....you know, all the "usual suspects" when it comes to computer viruses.

How do you know that

RonaldJosephCote

When I 1st bought a computer 15-18 yrs ago, I was told by a technician, "If you want to stay away from 99.9% of all viruses, stay away from gaming sites, chat rooms, & P-sites.
