What's with all the people around here who lose their minds when an opponent declines a rematch?  I get that it's frustrating to lose and the desire for a second chance, but there's no explicit or implicit rule that a rematch has to be accepted.  I can't believe how many players call foul or--worse yet--accuse opponents of "cheating" when they decline a follow-up game.

I often play a game or two during my lunch break at work.  If I've got 20 minutes to spare, I'll play a 10 minute live game.  Win or lose, if I don't play a second game against the same opponent, it's typically because I don't have time.  But even it's because I simply don't want to, that's not cheating.  And I don't feel that it's unsportsmanlike.

Anyone care to respectfully disagree?  I'd love to have someone explain this phenomenon to me.

If youre playing longer games then of course a rematch isnt necessary. I mean who the heck wants to play the same guy for 20-40 mins? BUT if youre playing a blitz game (5 mins and under), what is the harm in not accepting a rematch? If you have time for a 2-5 min blitz game, chances are highly likely that you have time for another game. This is just common sense. The amount of 1 win and run types on this site is unbelievable. Why is it so bad to play with both colors and then move on the next opponent? This is a question that the trolls on this site come up with excuses to not answer.

Will you rematch whiners ever grow up? The world doesn't revolve around you! You seem to believe that your opponent, having accomplished the unimaginable feat of beating you, has decided to rest on his laurels and never play another game of chess. Let me try to understand your logic. I put in a seek to play an unknown opponent — but after beating him, I decide he's too tough for me and I'd rather take my chances against another unknown opponent. If that makes sense to you, my best advice is don't invest in the stock market.

There are many reasons for declining a rematch request. All I require is one. Some months ago I posted the following on one of the countless threads created by rematch whiners.

FBloggs

In one of these stupid rematch threads (maybe this one), someone called on chess.com to please remove the rematch request button. I recommended instead that the site keep the button but change its function. When pressed, it would immediately close the user's account.

To all you rematch whiners: I'll tell you why I reject your rematch requests. It's not because I'm afraid to play you again. No, blundering your queen in the first game didn't intimidate me. In fact, I figured you would find a way to blunder Her Majesty again in the second game. It's not because someone is at the door or I'm late for a meeting. And it's not because Publishers Clearing House is on the phone and it turns out I really was already a winner. No, it's not because of any of those ordinary things that interfere with chess. Why do I reject your request then?

First, I know that it's not fair to reject a rematch request. I know that when I agreed to play a game with you, I was morally obligated to continue playing game after game until you somehow evened the score. But knowing that just makes rejecting your request all the more satisfying. I reject your rematch request because I don't like you. However, I appreciate knowing how much it bothers you. Thanks.

hadzovic

I personally don't care about rematches declined (though I do appreciate one) but I can't stand rude players. Those that make you wait when down. In few occasions I have been verbally abused (lol on line abuse lol) for dumb stuff... anyways if you have the time play if not I would only say one thing, take the time to be polite (if opponent deserves it) and type "gg, no time thx" - that's it.

We all start to try to do this an maybe we have a very friendly chess.com

also signing up is way to easy... I'd be open for some better verification to limit fake accounts... noticed few of those.

damn, screw me I became forum police coaches.png

Will trolls like you ever grow up? Where in earth did it say the world revolves around me? Thats just your wild false assumption over a simple rematch, with a different color mind you. I give rematches WIN or lose. Thats right, go look at my games played. I send or accept rematches even after ive WON. This thought is lost on cowards like you. Play with both colors, WIN or lose.

In fact i just took a quick look at like your last 20 games played. The ONLY 2 times you accepted a rematch was AFTER A LOSS. LMAO How unsurprising that is.

You don't know what the word 'coward' means, son. When I served in combat, you were probably safe and sound in your parents' home ― heroically accepting rematch requests. Give me a break.

Wrong. I never request or accept a rematch whether I win or lose. If I play the same person twice consecutively, it's only because I put in another seek and got paired with him again.

My profile picture is about 12 years old (ive been on this site for 8 years, much longer than u), so "son" isnt a word id use to describe me (unles youre basically a senior citizen).

And thats a really weak excuse. So the ONLY times you got paired with someone u just played were after losses?? lmao how convenient that would be, unfortunately its such a weak and obvious lie, try again bud

You are right - the world doesn't revolve around you. The world is just stunned by your higher moral standards. You say:"Play with both colors, WIN or lose" and the world answers: "YES SIR!!!".

Curious how "rematch whiners" actually whine.  Do they leave messages on your home page?  Send a a message in chat, or what?  Haven't had the pleasure yet.

Your assumptions don't quite match reality.  I'll rematch someone (win or lose) if they were fun to play.  Unless it was a standard game.

They don't leave messages on my home page or send me messages in game chat, but that's because I only allow friends to do either. But yeah, they do both when allowed. They also create threads to whine about being denied their God-given right to rematches. For instance, jay_00, the brave warrior who always accepts rematches no matter if he wins or loses, created the thread Never seen so many cowards on 1 site.
