Rematching

Speaking of blocking, here's something funny.  I just found out one of my friends blocked me.  I'm surprised it doesn't automatically remove people from the friends list.

How can you tell if you have been blocked?

ClavierCavalier

Clicked on their profile to add a comment asking how they're doing.  It said I was blocked.

nobody and i mean nobody is obliged to rematch so blocking will be a mistake in my opinion.....and when sb doesnt ask for a rematch qafter the game and waits till im leave chat or plays really bad just to annoy me and then asks for rematch no way  i ' ll give him one...the other time someone asked for arematch after i won...then won the second game so the score was 2-0 and he asked again for a remtch...i declined and he called me a chicken and when i sked him he said it was not according to fair play????cmon areu serious dude???

yes, to be more specific, I'm refering to blitz games, 3-5 minutes... there are usually over 10,000 users online so even if all of the regular players have large block lists there will still be more than enough left. I think it will alienate those players who are only there to get points and make it more competitive for the rest of us.

c95s011

everyone just keep BLOCKING all players that play 1 game, win and leave... eventually we can have that group basically eliminated from plying anyone but each other!

c95s011

10 games in a row today, we have to start blocking ALL players who play 1 game and leave, especially if they are playing white... let's relegate them to playing each other. In fact, maybe there can be 2 logins, one for chess players, and one for those who are only interested in gaining a few points in their rating (which is by the way meaningless). BLOCK those who don't really want to play anyway!

theTigerWhoCametoTea

I only rematch if I have time for another game and I am asked by a defeated opponent. If I am lacking time, I will let them know the reason (if there is time to let them know the reason).I will not rematch with someone who soundly thrashes me and asks for another game. It's not a gentelmanly/womanly practice. It's uncivilized.

I MAY accept a rematch from someone  I have good rapport with during the game even if they have won out of a spirit of freindliness. The usual problem is time. If I had more time, however, I would play longer games.

Of course blocking is always an option but I reserve those measures for obnoxious punks. Non-rematcher is one thing. Troll is a whole other can of worms.

I wouldn't get too upset about people who pass. Not everyone thinks like you think they do.

I often see a rematch request after I've started another game with a different opponent. Naturally, I ignore it.

If a player is regularly on this site, and is in my rating range, we will play again. The rematch need not be instant. As theTigerWhoCametoTea aptly noted, it is the loser who sould graciously request a rematch. Worth noting, however, if you were beat in twelve moves, perhaps its time to log off and sober up, seeking the rematch on another day.

Most opponents see only one game because their account is short-lived. Maybe they have a string of accounts that last six months. I've had three at another site that deletes users after one year on inactivity.

I will never understand this obsession of some players with rematches. Apparently they think it has something to do with fairness, for reasons that escape me.

Is anybody else tired of people not rematching after one victory, especially after they play white or a time victory? My brother tells me that at levels 1400 and on people usually be fair and rematch but at the lower level I'm currently at, it seems nobody ever rematches after close victories, or maybe I'm crazy.

Why would you (or anyone) be automatically entitled to a rematch? What has that got to do with fairness?

Anyway, I tend only to rematch players if it was a really good and/or close, tight game. If I play someone who thinks for 1 second per move (I usually only play G/30), gives away three pieces in the opening or just shuffle their King back and forth waiting to be checkmated (all while offering draws every other move) then why on earth would I consider another game? :D That's just... painfully silly.

What about if I only have time for 1 game?

You're going to block me because I have a life outside of Chess.com?

And why not just be happy you can play a game and you're not living like this:

Being mad that you can only play one game against an opponent - first world problem.

konhidras

For the sake of chess brotherhood, I always give a rematch most especially when i win. but when i give a rematch and my opponent takes a long time to reply to my very first move...ah ah ah..I abort. Why? Coz id rather play a new game with a human.(if you get what i mean).

Wink, wink, nudge nudge. Say no more, say no more.

Last night I reached a decisive advantage with Black on move 20, and checkmated my opponent with two queens on move 31. He left a message containing profanity on my page because I did not play a second game.

A rematch is not always merited. If he had resigned in a hopelessly lost position, I would have been happy to play another game or two even though it was way past my bedtime and I had poured that third glass of bourbon while watching Criminal Minds. I went to sleep instead.

So smug - just give a rematch and stop being stingy

People who don't give at least one rematch to the losing player and who move onto another game are boring scared people who lack empathy or and do not care for their fellow humans.

You do not have to give a rematch;  - but let's be clear to refuse a request for a rematch is action of the coward, the mean spirited, judgemental or the selfish.

In real life face to face 5 minute chess games if you did not give a single rematch - then you are a coward and slimey.

However I suspect in real life these cowards WOULD give a rematch - the anonymity of the internet is what promotes such unsporting and callous behaviour.

Reading Zirhab's post it is clear he takes great satisfaction from "ignoring" requests for a rematch; he leaves the game immediately after winning - silently.   He is very mean and anti social.

Zirhab justifies this because his opponent had the temerity to fight on for the win, rather than "resigning a hopeless position".  Slimey.

Wow, did not know chess on Chess.com was so life or death.

I will be MUCH more careful in the future ......

Bobby was the ultimate coward - winning the world championship then running off to hide.  Pathetic.

Basically he was too scared to put his ego on the line.  Hence he was a coward.  He was also arguably stingy and selfish - and I would hesitate to say he loved his fellow man

Nakumura and Tal are the opposite, brave and fearless they  play anyone anytime and do not hesitate to rematch.  Tal would not gloat about denying an opponent a single rematch!

You "no-rematch" people are truly pathetic and can only do this  on the internet - try that in real life at the chess club and lose all respect.

What does Bobby (I am assuming you mean Bobby Fisher and not my friend Bobby Spinner) have to do with rematches on Chess.com?

Troll.

I am not a troll - I find people who do not rematch even once after they win are like drivers who do not say thanks when you let them pass.  Anti-social, ego-centric and selfish.
