Stop looking at your opponent's flag. Problem solved.

it is not really the problem solved, is it?

Fighting fire with fire usually burns more houses down.

It does, and that is inevitable what will happen here. But at the same time we can't do nothing as crimes against humanity and possible genocide are occurring. A horrible situation to be in, and yet here we are.

I just don't see how aborting online chess games is going to affect what's happening in Ukraine in any way.

It won't, obviously. Yet I still don't want to play against the Russian flag.

yes, obviously I do!

but, as said many times, it is not just me blocking Russians; FIFA, UEFA, IPC, IOC, USA, EU etc etc etc.

cause you have a right to be a good person and your choosing not to

the reason that's happening is because those people believe that if they cut off russian access to.. other things, putin will be pressured in and end the war. but I assume chesss.com staff believe nobody should not have access to chess.

I'm not being judged by you. In your other post you just attributed lots of opinions to me that I didn't say. You are confusing a lot of things.

yes, I understand that. Clearly.

And I understand that chess.com might have that belief too. But also I am allowed to align my belief with the former rather than the latter, without having my account restricted for it.

no its not really confusion, its just pointing out that you have violated the rules of the site by simply aborting via against "russian players" which also breaks sportsmanship. its not moral to mistreat other players and quit just cause they are russian when they have the same rights as you to play anyone here including me so why cant you? its not magic

FIDE has passed rules forbidding Russia and Belarus from hosting world tournaments. Sergei Karjakin faces ethical charges by FIDE. I believe Russian professional players can still play in worldwide tournaments, as long as they don’t use the Russian flag. This is on chess24 news. You should read their official statement.

Onto chess.com. Aborting games against people using the Russian flag is honestly your own problem. It’s literally written as a warning: aborting games can lead to your account being restricted.

Now if we consider chess.com banning Russian players: this is almost impossible. People can randomly change their flag in settings; and an ip ban can be bypassed with a VPN. And thirdly, banning random Russians is a good way to show discrimination. And I thought we were in the civilized world?

And they're playing under a different flag if they're ashamed of the Russian one.

I realise I have violated the rules of the site. That is what this whole forum is about. You don't need to point that out.

And is is no more immoral for me to abort against Russian players than it is for FIFA to ban the Russian football team from competing. Exactly the same moral basis. And I have a perfect right to do what I am doing. As I stated, most Russians are wonderful people. they are taking to the street and hopefully will manage to bring an end to all this. But just now I don't have to play chess against them.

The Russian people didn't do anything wrong. Its the government. It has literally nothing with normal Russians to do. So you should just treat them like normal people. Well, that 's all my opinion.

you definitely are. but that doesn't mean you can go do whatever you want. you still have to follow the abort rule

If they're so great, why don't they care what their president does. The president they themselves elected.

I stand united with OP. I will send a message to chess.com asking for clarification. IOC, and chess is a part of this, has urged us all to not only stop playing events on Russian or Belarusian soil, but also that in the event there are events with Russian or Belarussian athletes, that their flags will not be shown. Refusing to play against players that are flying these flags should not be punished or lead to restricted accounts. OP is just following IOC guidelines.

When the Vietnam was was going on, many Americans did not support it. However, nobody saw mass emigrations from America. You can disagree with a country's actions but still love the country itself.
