alrighty, I was playing with [Do not name and shame - Mod.]... she made a foolish move, and in chat I sent heh.

she responded "what doest that mean"

I responded "it is a short laugh"

she responded " oh its coz youre a [Edited for language - Mod.]"

when i tried to return to the game i get a message that chess.com is no longer available ... the servers are down. What the [Edited for language - Mod.]. I didnt do anything wrong, shes the one who is being rude! cursing people, and Im Banned?

beyond that, ive run into rude players all the time and I dont have the ability to ban them like she did to me so WHAT What [Edited for language - Mod.] is going on

There's a really helpful article in the FAQ ion dealing with rude or abusive opponents: https://support.chess.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1444877-what-should-i-do-if-another-member-is-rude-or-abusive-

Please don't name & shame people in the public forums, but follow the above guidelines and report them if you feel that this is warranted.

It is not nice to send "heh". It is a bit rude, but not enough to be banned.

Obviously her reaction was not appropriate, but imagine if I played against you and laughed at half of the moves you make (exaggeration), would it be funny? I have blundered many times in completely winning positions, and believe me, it's not exactly funny at first for me, I usually get very upset (at myself).

I would've cussed at you too.

Well, the fact is, he didn't do something as extreme as laughing at half of the moves she made.  Exaggerating as a rhetorical strategy doesn't make sense here because he's specifically emphasizing how minor his action is.  There is a big difference between saying "heh" and saying "hahahahahah that move sucks!!!!"(and even one or two comments like that is something you should be able to brush off because you are a mature player)

The fact that you get upset with yourself about making blunders and losing games to strangers online is a character flaw with you and maybe something you should work towards improving.

Because a mature person would just say "ah I f***ed it up didn't I happy.png"  or they'd say "haha oops!" or "damn it".  They'd show some minor frustration, but they wouldn't get really butthurt over some online game that has no bearing on anything for them.

Not trying to lay into you too much,  just my two cents.

I exaggerated because he said "foolish move" and from my perspective many moves may be. Btw, I am quite competitive, so any blunder I make upsets me at least a little, but I am not only talking about online play. OTB I have drawn a won game R+R vs R+ P (I remember the exact position from a year ago, it was quite frustrating) and lost a game where I had a piece advantage. Laughing at someone who blundered, even a "heh" upsets me, that fact upsets me, not so much the blunder itself. I am just saying the Ops attitude was not appropriate either.

For me if you write heh it's bad sportsmanship. I don't mind when it happens but it shows the class of the opponent who says heh. You can be amused by a bad move but opening chat and writing heh means you want to gloat and wind your opponent up. If they reply in an unfriendly manner then you reap what you sow.

One time I was playing a game in a tournament on chess.com and I was attacking and then suddenly it looked like he found a defensive idea and my attack was out of fire power, at that point he typed "lol" in the chat, suddenly I found a brilliant tactic and in 2 moves his king was checkmated. xD I typed "Lol" in the chat xD, Is that rude or just instant karma.

Pluvrax
