RUDENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CaptJackAubrey

I make it a practice to greet every person I play against and to tell them 'good game' or 'well played' etc. whether I win or lose. It is so annoying to play against people every single day who can't even be bothered to return a greeting. I understand people who do not wish to talk during the game, I usually don't. If you don't wish to say anything at all to people just disable chat. But to simply ignore people is so rude.

Cannot ''assume'' rudeness without the facts so silly-thread.

Your opponent may not even be able to read or write English & not responding for that reason ? Or may have chat pernamently-disabled so they can concentrate.

If it is so silly then why are you commenting? I always find it amusing when people object to a subject but still feel compelled to add their two cents.

Most of my opponents are usually USA, England, India, Australia and New Zealand so they do dpeak English. If their chat is disabled I would not be able to send anything. I have played against people with disabled chat before. While disabled chat may be possible there is no way it is the case most of the time.

Capt Jack - don't take it so personally.  I usually return greetings but sometmes I don't and its just because I am into chess or ito something else.  It's nothing.

I wouldn't say I take it personal, it just get's frustrating after a while. I just don't think it is that difficult to be polite.

Don't be so narrow-minded. This site is international & you fail to make that distinction in the title of your thread :

A topic labelled in such a fashion is bound to be read ( & responded to...)

RUDENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fully realize that we are dealing with an international site here. That has nothing to do with being decent. Joey is right, sometimes people don't notice the chat right away because they are focused on the game. However, such people invariably greet in return when they notice my greeting. It just happened to me in my last game. The fact is that on any given day as much as 75% of the people don't greet in return at all. IMHO it is a matter of simple decency.

Do to others what you would have them do to you. I like it when people are decent; when they are polite. So I am polite. Even when I have had a bad day or game.

You are - as someone else (was it paulgottlieb?) put it in another thread - also a "connoisseur of the imaginary insult" Smile

corrijean

That is a good phrase.

CaptJackAubrey

It would be particularly good if it were applicable.

winerkleiner

I've had players not comment until they have the upper hand in the game, maybe nerves get in the way with people...I don't know.

As evidenced by the fact that it is in this case particularly good.

i try not to talk during a game. it gets in the way. some people like to let you know your gonna lose.. like checkmate in 3. or something to that fact. but saying hello when someone else does is just good manners.

not a big fan of talking here or in real life. to be honest i've only meet one person that has drawn me into a confersation that i've wanted it to continue. and i get really board with the same confersations over and over. but i wont disable chat, good game and good move . are great to see. and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. and passing along  the same to them is just as good.. so is it rude or just a double edge sword.
