Don't study,  just play chess. Studying will waste a lot of time and your progress will barely be even noticable, and should I mention how boring it can be?

I advice you to play chess just for fun, try out some variants. Try Bughouse, it's really addictive.

960 is good training to get you out of opening books.

Find an opponent who will come over to your house to play occasionally. Give him a wooden chair. Before each game, chop a quarter of an inch off each of the legs of his chair... so that as the weeks go by, you will seem to get taller and taller in his eyes, while he slowly sinks into the ground. The cumulative psychological effect will improve your play (oe at least, your results).
