Saying 'gg' after a game

Saying 'gg' after a game is good thing to do as it shows that you are sport.

A player who won a game and the other person who lost ask for a match but didn't say a 'gg' can be seen as rude. Yes there is chess etiquette that we should practice to do.

However isn't a bad thing as well that the person who won ask for a 'gg' and saying 'no gg, no rematch'

So what do you think about the last sentence?

@Chessbee,

I totaly agree with you.

I always say gg even if i lose or win because in each game their are mistakes and we learn from our mistakes.

Their are people that say that ''gg is arogance''. That mean they have a bad sportmanship. And look on this link how many high rated player's (1800+) have said that!:http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/know-what-really-irks-me

win or lose i express it because.....chess IS a good game!Wink

I find that I always say it when I lose, but sometimes I feel awkward saying it when I win.  Particularly if it was a win by taking advantage of a silly blunder, or something that I am afraid they may think I'm being sarcastic by saying gg after.  I'll usually just try to wait and see if they say it first, then follow suit.

I hate when I say gg and they say "thanks" or "ik"... If saying gg is basically saying you played well, why should that bother me?

Before my free 10 day trial which starts today I couldnt answer because I wasnt paying and didnt know how to invite a friend to chat. Hope no one took it personally.

I do always try to say it, unless, like Zaphin, they played some awful blunder that allowed me to win... In those cases I don't want them to think I'm being sarcastic, so I just wait for them to say something.

Avatar of Mijin

I personally only say gg if it was a particularly interesting/exciting/surprising game.

But...it's devalued from the fact that for many it's the polite thing to say.
Is there a standard abbrev. for a *genuinely* noteworthy game?

Avatar of PUNTHAMURRA

win or lose badly and then gg is the standard but I've had many times when my opponent and I were so evenly matched and games were so hard fought and see sawing back and forth where I think I'm better then there better then u dig deep and equalize and then draw or you just win or lose. In that case you say GREAT GAME!!

Avatar of quadrewple

Good game for who?  I only say gg if it was a genuinely close match, or if one player made a decent comeback after being down in material.

gg

no sorry, good post

Over the past few days I have been on the look out for players saying 'gg'. After every loss I say 'gg' and after every win I wait to see if my opponent will say it.

So far not one person has said 'gg' to me, even when I have said it after defeat. Even if they win by time and were down material, I still say 'gg'.

I am losing faith in my opponents sportsmaship. Maybe the people I play haven't ever played OTB tournaments, but it was always ettiquette to say 'gg' after every match.

Avatar of Cavatine

For example it would be inappropriate to say 'gg' after the game if during the game you found out that the Yellowstone caldera had just exploded and there was a large fast cloud of deadly gases and ashes about to destroy everything you know.  But in most cases it's perfectly reasonable to say 'gg'.

Avatar of grimshanky

I don't always say gg

But when I do, it's because it actually was a good game

Avatar of dunce

Another 'gg' forum. Make it stop.

Avatar of green-screener

Gg means good game, right?

Avatar of jeffegg2

I usually don't say gg. That is kinda like saying "hey nice corvette!". Just seem like an unnecessary thing to say. All games are good no?

It started 18 months ago. It's not another GG thread.

Yes, I guess you're right.  Other GG threads didn't start 18 months ago.
