Hello,

I have a problem with resizing board ( ScidvsPc 4.10 Mac OSx)

I drag the corner of the windows to change the board size but the max size is too small for my 27" iMac. Any idea to solve the problem?

(The windows version does not seem to have this problem.)

MrEdCollins

Have you tried it with different piece fonts?

One idea is that the default piece font doesn't have a larger size, but maybe other piece fonts do contain larger images.

Hi Ed,

SCID vs PC - I tried to change the fonts and configuration parameters without results

SCID - the menu for the configuration size of the board is a little different and the maximum size is adjustable to 11

DrNyet

zergnapola,

How did you make that screenshot of just the menus?

Thanks

MrEdCollins

I'm sorry, I'm not able to help.  I don't know why the max size is too small for you.

Here's what my max size looks like, with my screen resolution and monitor.  Although it doesn't quite fill the entire screen, I'm okay with this max size.

No problems Ed, grazie

ciao

Yes the SCID max board size is far too small on my mac as well. Its the main reason I don't use SCID vs Mac. I prefer ChessX www.box.com/chessx which has a much better looking board which I can make as large as I wish.

Well, it's mentioned in the Scid help file. Anyway, using your mouse to make an illegal KxK move will add a null move to a game. This works both in Scid and Scid vs. PC.

Another method that works in Scid vs. PC is to press the minus key on the keyboard twice. Oddly, this keyboard method didn't work for my older version of Scid.

Thank you Escherehcse. I did look up in help, i didnt get it. Also the keyboard method doesnt work for my scid vs pc. KXK works.
Thank you once again

Maybe this is a recent fix to Scid vs. PC? Which version of Scid vs. PC are you using?

dzikus

In Scid vs. PC 4.10 both methods work for me

No idea. Maybe a flaky minus key on your keyboard?

what is chess endgame tablebase?

how to use them on scid or scidvspc?

Endgame tablebases are files that will give a perfect solution, as long as the number of pieces left on the board (including pawns and kings) are within the capabilities of the tablebases. For example, a 3-4-5 piece tablebase set can solve positions containing two kings, two rooks, and one pawn. (or any other combination of five pieces).

Scid vs. PC uses tablebase files that use the Nalimov format. You can download them at either of these two sites:

http://folk.uib.no/pfvaf/chesslib/Nalimov.htm

http://tablebase.sesse.net/

(The sesse site requests that you not use a download accelerator.)

A 3-4-5 piece Nalimov tablebase set requires a little over 7 GB of hard drive space. (A 3-4-5-6 piece set = around 1 TB.) The downloads include files with an MD5 file extension. This is a list of MD5 hash signatures for the Nalimov files which you can use to verify that your downloaded files are not corrupt. An easy way to verify the MD5 hash signatures is to use the freeware MD5Checker program, here:  http://getmd5checker.com/

Once you've downloaded the tablebase files, placed them in a folder of your choice, and verified the MD5 hashes, then simply open Scid vs. PC, go to the Options -> Tablebase Directory menu, and choose the folder path containing the tablebase files.

Well written answer.
