A person can take chess as seriously or non-seriously as he wants. There is no rule that you must play the "best" move that you see. Even still, it looks like he is trying to win the games, just with highly unorthodox openings.
It's true that this kind of play may be more upsetting if it was during a serious tournament (yet, it would still not seal the question of ethics) -- but this is no-stakes chess, it's just for fun.
I think the games are really cool because I always thought chess players were lacking in creativity and humor. If someone can be a goofball and still win, perhaps those who lose to this nontraditional play and get upset should reconsider their huge egos. It may be a case where some people need to... grow down.
In any case, what he is doing is not against the rules in any way. And it does show that openings are not as important as most people think.
As for your running analogy, a more accurate one would be if a strong runner handicapped himself by starting several minutes behind other runners, and still won in the end. Then each time he won, his handicap would be increased until it evened out in theory. If we're comparing this to chess and chess ratings.
WTF? They deleted your last thread? Ridiculous.
This is honestly some of the coolest chess I've ever seen. It's not just trolling, it's being creative and still winning. Shows that chess isn't all about super specific lines, at least below the professional level.
If anyone thinks this kind of play is "wrong" or somehow "against the spirit of the game" as one person stated, you couldnt be more wrong.
It's because he's not playing the best moves as he sees them. He is playing a different game, first by handicapping himself and then working his way out of it. Come on, you have to see the problem with this playing. It's slumming.
It's not showing anything about "below the professional level". If he was able to score the same rating at a standard time limit by playing these openings then it would be showing that. I'm pretty sure even a 1600 player would score highly against someone just bringing out their rooks and given a few minutes for each move. He's playing at a level far below what he should be playing by doing this and it's making a joke of the low level player trying to play properly.
Your post shows real immaturity, calling it "some of the coolest chess I've ever seen"... wow. I think there's something so wrong with this type of playing, no matter who plays it or why.
If you were going to race someone and trained for it, would you like it if they started doing a jig or running in front of you and running backwards and laughing at you? It's the same idea, so grow up.
