Sure, but it seems like you're trying to have it both ways with Nakamura. There's race and culture. You can't say he's neither.

In my area (my family included) most people have Dutch and German surnames. I think it's silly to say you're not an American unless you have an English surname like Smith.

Maybe we don't accept the labeling of it as "originally European". Hong Kong originally European too?

I guess Hawaiians didn't originally have Hawaiians and that is also part of the American regime.

one the most racist things I ever heard someone sincerely say, happened at work...

he knew I was into chess and as he figured, two ethnic group (and pretty much ONLY two ethnic groups) had the smarts for chess. Firstly primarily the german ethnicity which historically are part of the history of germany, france and espacially England.

secondly he says, the jews have an inbred knack for deception and conniving and thus are naturally talented at chess game. He figured that it was the "jewish roots" that gave the soviets such huge successes in tournament chess in the 20th century.

now he hadn't heard much about modern masters but he was an avid fisher supporter and as he described fisher taking down the jewish chess system in terms that A. Hitler would have approved of.

in short, I strongly dislike any systematic, sweeping generalizations of people based on their ethnicity. and I think it is truly NOT fair to deny the citizenship of many worthy immigrants and their kids just because they don't have American "roots".

if I were umpteen times as strong and named magnuson, and like #2 in the world -- would you be going on and on about why the scandanavians are SO much better at chess??
