should body odour be against the rules???

no doubt about it - unfair and uncool...shame these people don't have real friends who will tell them the smelly truth...

If you find it an issue, you could always train by playing against the smelliest people you can find without dropping dead from air poisoning

12.6 It is forbidden to distract or annoy the opponent in any manner whatsoever.
This rule is a bit misleading though because it doesn't seem to cover annoying moves.
That's GENIUS! Well... not very nice... but... hehehe...
(That was just a joke. Please don't take it seriously. I bet without this, some would.)

Chess is based on concentration and thought.Anything that distracts one's attention is against the game,so send the soapless and smokers away.

Rule #57 : Upon entrance to any FIDE or USCF sponsored event, mandatory car washes will be required for all participants (cars prohibited)

i am only 14 and second hand smoke makes me go away automaticly. i just can't breath cigarette smoke - my eyes get red and i feel dizzy/not comfortable.
i'm impressed you could play under these conditions
There is no way i could concentrate with someone smoking in my face.
About people smelling bad - i think there should be a rule concerning it.
I mean, WHY NOT ? if you keep yourself clean and 'smellable' for other people(and yourself) there's no way you should have to stand someone else that smells bad.
it's a lack of respect.
What are the advantages of being dirty ?
There's NO reason to NOT wash yourself before going in a public event like a chess tournament.
Taking a shower takes less strategy and effort than a chess game.
i mean, come on.
Stay clean
Bring a can of disinfectant with you. Spray generously over the board and in the general area you are in. Bask in the cheers of the other players who wished they would have done the same.
Spray enough so that if the TD asks you not to do so anymore that it will no longer matter.

OK lets cut to the chase, some OTB tournemant players preparation for a competition doesnt include a shower, should this be banned? im sort of joking, but i must admit that over the past 25 yrs, i have been appalled at some of my opponents personal hygeine! i once had to play this guy, i wont name him , but he smelt so bad, i had to go for a stroll between moves! (unfair advantage?). Someone else i played had 'death breath' , he smelt like he had been eating garlic bread for a month before playing me, it actually really offputting, and i find it hard to concentrate when im not sure whether my opponent has BO or i have stood in something! (it always turns out to be the former). I played in another tourney once, where the whole playing area (a huge hall) smelt foul! i mean everyone was wondering where it was coming from! it was eventually narrowed down to one 15 yr olds armpits in the intermediate section, who obviously was a 'soap dodger' . my serious question here, is if your opponent smells bad, is this him breaching the rules of fair play? and if not , should a rule be put in place? i mean its just as offputting if not more so, than a mobile phone ringing, and that under fide rules gets you a lost game!
