Why did Shakespeare's family change their name from Breakspear? I can see the obvious reason that Shaking a spear seems like a better option than breaking a spear. Unless you broke the spear whilst pulling it out of your enemies breast bone.
I agree with your premise that nobles murdered and stole their way to the top. Also I'm now interested in learning more about the myth(or not) of Robin Hood.
