He probably should become Grand-master. He is very dedicated to the game.

No. He hasn’t earned his 3 GM norms yet.

Firstly Levi is still a I.M in 2022 he posted a youtube April Fools indicating he had been awarded the G.M sadly for Levi who I do like, he is a likeable guy but there are no honourable G.M awards no matter how dedicated you are, the Title has to be earned, Hikaru a good friend of Levi doesn't feel Levi will achieve his dream of becoming a G.M stating it takes a degree of dedication at tournaments these days to obtain the level needed and with all Levi's streamiming commitments odds are stacked against him sadly?!

There are honorary GM titles awarded by FIDE (34 so far). But they were awarded for the person's dedication and contribution to chess, while Levy's streaming is only contributing to his bank account.

I beg to differ.

In a world where kids these days are glued to their screens- video games, social media, youtube- the internet has become the number 1 way to spread the game. In many countries, chess is not taught in school. In fact, the school I go to doesn’t even have a chess club! Streamers and content creators like Levy have become the best way to spread chess to adults and children alike!

In gotham’s “Stockfish solved chess. Goodbye.” video, he mentions how many people watch his videos that don’t even play chess, and the comments confirm! It’s become a way to show the world the brilliance and beauty of chess- something they might have never seen before.

Levy isn’t just contributing to his bank account. He’s contributing to the spread of chess in our world! How many people get into chess because of a Gotham video? How many people come back to chess, or keep playing chess because of Gotham? How many people enjoy chess, and see it as a way to have fun, rather than a stupid game for nerds? You guessed it—

There are hundreds (thousands) of chess content creators. Rozman is the most successful for the time being, but it can easily change.

I myself never managed to watch more than 30 seconds of any of his videos. There is only a limited amount of cringe I am willing to suffer, then I turn the video off.

Levy is literally the face of chess on Youtube and it's not even close. The second largest channel (Hikaru) only has less than half of his subscribers, and most people who watch Hikaru also watch Levy.

Levy's tutorials are the most watched in the world, and I'm sure that his tutorials helped millions of people get better at chess and get new players into chess.

I'm not saying that this deserves him an honorary GM title, but he did a lot more for the chess community than just making profit

You can watch Agadmator, his videos are very good (but he did not create the effect gothamchess did on popularizing chess)

It's not a matter of should. Everyone can do as they please when it comes to chess rating. It's a question of will he become a GM?

That's not a real question. It would require some superhuman effort, and instead Rozman decided to put in zero effort.

In essence the answer is simple, Levi will not become a G.M unless he earns his 3rd Norm in FIDE event, he cannot realistically be awarded a G.M Norm based on his streaming dedication as suggested this is only investing in his bank balance so it's not the same as someone dedicating and helping people in chess, Michael Basman was a I.M he spent 20 years promoting chess in schools through his chess for schools program and never made a penny. he did it out of his love for chess to help the youngsters in our schools and he was not awarded a G.M title so why should Levy, the title has to be earned not given!!
