This is a funny thread. I don't think I can get into trouble here.

Or just make the criteria to be titled harder to achieve?

BoardMonkey

Good point. No need for title inflation.

BoardMonkey

Title inflation is what would happen if new titles were introduced. Titles would be diminished in stature. @PloughBoyChess is making a good point here. It might not have translated well.

BoardMonkey

The expression title inflation might not have translated well. I borrowed it from grade inflation. So it's something I made up. But I think it applies here.

FIDE charges players to get their titles, so an additional level they can charge for might be appealing to it.

In addition to getting the rating and/or norms:

CM/WCM costs 50 Euros

FM/WFM 70

IM/WIM 165

GM/WGM 330

FA 50

IA 100

Trainer fees 20 to 50

Maybe FIDE would be happy to have S(super)GM/WSGM for 500 Euros

Giving FIDE a way to charge more money may increase the chances of getting a change made.
