The 50 move rule shouldn't exist!

I think I email them. Repetition is a forced draw, and nothing else.

Good luck!

They might even do something about it if everyone e-mails.

Later Today I will

What the hell is their logic behind getting rid of repetition? Even with a 1 sec increment, you'd never ever lose, ever. The game would go on for 5 days.

Who knows, but they made all your chess software obsolete on 1st. July 2017 too.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

Are u sure that's correct? They got rid of repetition as a draw. It's like so obvious. What's their new rule now?

Polar_Bear

No matter what FIDE (= the idiot Ilyumzhinov) says, 50M and 3xrepetition remain basic rules of classic chess.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

Not the 50 move rule. That's a fake draw. Does 50 moves mean that a player is stalemated, insufficient material, repetition, or a dead position? No it doesn't. Therefore it is not a draw.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

MARattigan, Tell these people in my other thread about how FIDE changed the rule that repetition/perpetual check is no longer a draw. It's ridiculous they don't even believe me lol

MARattigan

There aren't any in the basic rules. They got rid of both the 50 move rule and the repetition rule, so now, if your opponent won't agree a draw, you just have to play on till one of you dies (or resign). There's now no basic chess rule that allows you to do anything else.

See:

in particular arts 5.3.1 and 5.3.2 in the latter. (Can't refer you to these arts. in the former because they're not there any more.)

In the BASIC rules? Copy and paste this into the page I started about this.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

What if neither player ever dies on time, then what?

Easier to just post the two links above.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

I did, so what if no one ever loses on time, then what?

It's going to be a long haul. You could try shooting him.

But friendly games are more often than not played without clocks. There are no time regulations in the basic rules.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

I can't even believe this is even real. What drugs is FIDE on now?

Polar_Bear

Well, again:

Does it matter what FIDE does/writes?

Classic chess has traditional canonical rules and they are above FIDE decisions. FIDE can only either follow them or create some noncanonical chess variant.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

Exactly

Me, and presumably the other people that have contributed to the topic.

Again, how do you force mate with a 2 knights vs pawn? 1 knight has to block the pawn, so how does a king and king and force king to the edge?

EndgameEnthusiast2357

Also, there are never halves of a move. A move is defined after both players have moved.
