should you exchange queens when down the exchange

On one hand I feel like you shouldn't exchange queens in order to complicate the game, on the other hand isn't trading down to a drawn endgame the right idea when playing down the exchange?

Generally speaking- dont trade, unless its a very good trade. The queen is sometimes able to make perpetual check and can save you the draw when beeing under.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I would have shown the position if I weren't playing it right now. I thought asking only for theoretical advice would be Ok.

The general rule is, when you're ahead in material, trade pieces but not pawns, when you're behind in material, trade pawns but not pieces.  There are myriad exceptions.

Most exchange down endings are relatively simple wins for the side with the rook, although there are some fortresses, particularly when there are few pawns, and/or all pawns are on one side of the board.

A common beginner mistake when defending such an ending with a bishop is to place the pawns on the same color as the bishop. This is perhaps the easiest for the rook to win.
