@mch818, That board is almost impossible to date. The company in England that made them was in business from the early 1900’s until it burned down in 1994. They made great boards. I have one of the 1990’s boards in 2.25”… it’s hard to tell the difference .

That 3.5" set looks really good on 51mm board proportionally. I also use 50 or 53mm board for 3.5" set, 51mm is a nice middle way.

A beautiful, functional box @MCH818. Lovely stuff.

Did you buy the Isle of Lewis pieces from house of Staunton as well? I have been looking at that set made of metal for years. I always thought they were super cool.

What was the company?

I recently acquired this solid wood board made from Mahogany and Macrocarpa with a Rimu boarder, it has squares of 49mm. It's the perfect battlefield for my SC 3.5 Paul Morphy set.

My taste gravitates to boards with borders - even better if border is raised or lowered. In this case the border is lowered creating a focus point (to my eye) on the raised playing surface. Beautiful stuff Tank. 👍

Beautiful board; looks great with your SC set.

Pawnerai

The click-clack, click-clack sound of an unweighted, unfelted set.

@Pawnerai What wood is in that board? It's lovely.

I only play on Staunton and semi-Staunton. This was a gift from the principal at a school where I coached fifteen years.

My in-laws bought this set for me during a Panama Canal cruise.

Thanks! It's leopard wood and highly-figured, birdseye maple happy.png

Ok I've been gone for a minute but what happened to the last 3 years of pics?

I am mostly collecting antique sets, but from time to time I am tempted by a modern set, like in this case. If I am not mistaken, this should be a 141/2 Chavet set (king size 69 mm, felted, but unweighted) on a Chavet board.

That's a keeper mr H!
