The Fault In Our Stars is a great movie. Just throwing that out there.  Cried so many times but it was still uplifting.

It was amazing, wasn't it. Did you read the book first?

NO I DIDN'T... and I will never forgive myself for watching the movie adaptation before reading the book! (Like I did with Hunger Games, etc. Not that I'm even remotely comparing TFIOS to Hunger Games. Two totally different stories.)

I'd still say it's definitely worth a read even though you've already seen the movie. There were some parts seemed like they only made sense because I've read it. I first read it about six months ago, and then re-read it two weeks ago so it was fresh in my mind when I went to see it. I'd read it and then see the movie again if I were you. Also it was great to see it with someone who has also read the book, so I didn't have to stop watching and constantly explain things.

You're a smart cookie.

She had the same idea too… didn't want to see it with her friends who wouldn't understand, and couldn't think who to see it with… then along comes me and asks her if she'd like to see it with me.

Had a great night.

Literary minded people are my kinda people! PS I heard from a little bird that guys don't cry. Well, did you cry watching the movie? Or did she cry?

I took tissues, fully expecting that both of us would cry. I didn't, but she shed a little tear, and I was going to offer her a tissue and a shoulder to cry on, but I think she was a bit embarrassed for me to see her crying, and she snuck her own tissues out before I even noticed that she was.

Well you had the good intentions to cry and I think girls, speaking as one, really love a shoulder to try on. hehe.

I do cry (sometimes) and I can get really emotional about stories like that, having been through something similar myself when I was younger. I think having just read the book again and knowing what happens and when, together with being super happy to be enjoying the evening with a really really nice girl who I like a lot, meant that there was no way I was going to cry that night.

Anyway tell this little bird that guys don't need to be a hardass all the time. It's ok to show emotion when the situation deems it appropriate.

HAHA!!! That comment thread is a trip to look at... lol... thank you for intervening before it got even more crazy! And I am passive aggressively speaking to that little bird... hehe Laughing

Haha, a few more and the original comment would have been squished into one letter per line.

And yes, I can show emotion when I need to, perhaps almost to a fault, but there's no point pretending something isn't emotional when it is. That's just not being yourself.

If I'm fortunate, I'm playing chess for lunch today. I'll set up at the coffee shop and see if I can get an opponent. I'll let them be white. If I don't get any hits, I'll take one of my Rs away.

Did you have any luck? :P

No. Frown

But I did encounter someone who thought I was stupid for spending $65 on a premium plastic, tripple weighted tournament set (3.87 in King) complete with board and bag. "Why in the world do you want to pay that much for chest set? The board ain't even wood. And why do you need heavy pieces?

"Because I like to play C-H-E-S-S, and lots of it, jeenyuss!"

Yes, I had to vent a little. It really gets me when someone tries to tell me how stupid I am for spending the enormous sum of $65 for a high quality plastic chess set.

On a better note, I did post my moves for three different correspondence games I'm playing. So, I really can't complain about not playing chess. Laughing

Oh gosh. I hope he didn't make a scene. If someone asked how much my chess set was I probably wouldn't answer, or I might tell a white lie. I think that's kind of a rude question anyway if they don't even care about playing chess. >_> And how long were you there that no one wanted to play? I really wanna set up shop somewhere and see who'll play chess with me Tongue Out

I agree with Allie here, I would rule that person out as incompetent as well. At the 2014 Chess Festival I bought a PINK chess set and a bag. If they had a pink bag, I would have chosen that one to match the set. So I just settled with a blue one, as I bought a blue set from a while ago but didn't get the bag at that time. I'm ever so curious to the responses I get, when I eventually set it up at the shop this coming Wednesday. I'll more than likely get comments from Ed and Adam. If Mark sees it he'll probably just look and laugh, with a witty comment. No offense taken if he does, though, because I know of his sense of chess-related humor.

And speaking of setting up shop, we should do so ourselves. I bet you would be really fun to play OTB Allie, since I've never beat you on this site before. I'm thinking about how fun it is to play Mark, the guy I've had possibly 20 matches with and lost 19 of them. We'll invite my friends (especially Mark, Paul and Ed) that I know IRL and also Jerome and Mr. Fett. I'm sure anyone riding a jetpack could make it over in no time flat.

December 29th is my birthday!

No. No scene was made. But, I find that most people who see you at a coffee shop (or the place of your choice) with your set out waiting for someone to sit down and play a game, they usually seem to be slightly intimidated or uncertain if it is ok for them to just ask if they can play a game. May I should not have my clock set out.

He should've held onto his rooks Yell How in the world did you defend the pawn you promoted. (BTW I lost to a 1000 rated chess player here recently, fair and square, so don't think I'm giving you a hard time lol)

For $199 yeah, at House of Staunton and USCF Sales. I don't have any reason on Earth to buy that. lol. I'm sure someone out there does. Can't think of why, out of all the possible nice sets to choose from. Tongue Out

dragonair234

^So that proves that they don't know how to defend a chess piece (3...Rxd1?!) and they think a knight is more valuable than a rook (4...Rxd5+). The end game after that is pretty much irrelevant. Lol. Hope you gave them some friendly pointers. But I do admire anyone's efforts in chess.
