Here is a conversation between my chess-playing friend (who was playing a turn based game on chess.com at the time) and a non-player:

Non-player: Is this some sort of online league?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Non-player: Move already!

Player: I have 14 days!

Non-player: Take the horse!

(The knight could have been taken by a queen, but it was adequately defended by multiple pieces.)

At least he knows how the queen moves

Lol. Yea, at the least.

At least he was interested in chess.com Wink

All of your ratings are higher than mine, I guess that makes me the non-chesser.

I just made the silliest move in my Online Chess game. I saw the really obvious consequence of one move, but moved someplace that is going to result in the same consequence. Greaaat. ha

In the chess world they call that "pulling a winerkleiner", lol.

"How do you decide which move to make? Is there a forced sequence to what you do, like he plays this, and you play that? Or do you just go by your instincts? Or do you, like, go with the flow?"

Quoted from my music teacher. I didn't know how to respond... after all, chess isn't a game of luck. It may have a little luck, but it's not the basis of the game. And I didn't want to explain a lot.

I planning on playing a live game tomorrow night (Wednesday) with whomever is available that I am virtually aquainted with (Dragon, December, winer). Any takers?

OMG! Dude, Wednesdays are my busiest days ever. Are you on West Coast time? Let's plan this thing for when we're both free! I definitely wanna play chess with you akafett. Akafett sounds like a type of gourmet cheese. AMIRIGHT?!

akafett = Also Known As Fett (as in Boba Fett) I'm on east coast time. How about tonight. I'm on vacation and can pull late nighters.

@ Camber: You're included, of coarse. Didn't mean to leave you out.

I checkmate my inexperienced opponent. Subsequently, he says "The king can move two spaces when it's checkmate!" He moves the king twice to capture the rook that is delivering checkmate. We quarrel about this, and I try to convince him that that is completely illegal. Eventually, I give up and decide to checkmate him again since I am still up by a huge amount of material. Once I do so, he moves his king to the first rank and says "Stalemate!" He starts to run aimlessly around the vicinity while screaming "I won!"

By the way, great description of his post-loss victory dance. He was flailing his ars, running in circles, behaving like a toddler.

camberfoil

ARMS. ARMS. He was not flailing his "arse".

Sounds like your music teacher was describing a blitz game there.

I play 1-minute games with substantial consideration, and I'm just another patzer...

@ Dragon: Bed time. We'll set a time to play a round or two.

The most annoying thing some of my friends (non chess players) do when playing chess is take FOREVER to think about a move after they've lost their queen or when their position is completely decimated. Like they think it's still possible to win.. xD

They see the good chess players thinking for a minute on how to choose one of the ample paths of destroying them, and they sit for ten minutes thinking about the weather. It's like what does the cow say to the noob? Moooooooove!
