You win against a beginner and they say "well, at least I had you in check at one time!"
Stuff Non-Chess Players Say

Have you guys ever did that 3 move checkmate thing? My dad is a grandmaster, he beats everyone with it. He is so good! I bet you he will beat everyone on chess.com!!!
That one made me twitch a little...

The other day one of my friends who doesn't play chess compared checkers to chess involving the depth of the games. I just smiled and tried not to roll my eyes lol
Love your name! And it's not even a debate. I don't even try to convince people otherwise because if they think that they are even remotely the same, then they have never played chess (or tried and did not understand it).
I'm always reminded of The Shawshank Redemption when Andy was playing Red in checkers:
Red: "King me."
Andy: "Chess. Now there's a game of kings."

I told once my work colleague that I am learning to play chess and he responded: "Oh nice, a similar thing do I, I play domino". It reminded me of:

(In an awed tone) "Woah man! You're playing on a timer??" (in relation to a 15 minute game, not a 1 minute game)
Also, when they think that winning in Chess is a simple matter of who can think the most moves ahead, as if it's a sort of memory game.

I told once my work colleague that I am learning to play chess and he responded: "Oh nice, a similar thing do I, I play domino". It reminded me of:

"I bet I can beat you"
Then when you play they don't know the basics or sometimes even the rules.
(Also kind of an ungracious thing to say anyway)

Everything is going well until you castle on either side fo the board. Then he says: "OMG WTF? You CHEATER! You moved 2 pieces with ONE MOVE!!"
I have had someone argue with me before about that one. "Hey...you can't do that!!!!" SMH

When you go to a chess tournament for 12th grade and younger and they say "I'm a 2000!" and I'm a 1450 and I beat them in <10 moves and then I say "So does that make me a 2800?"

I cannot stand it when someone refers to it as: "your chess stuff" or "that chess thing" as if I am building some kind of mutant hybrid dog in my toolshed.

LOL! Yes!! So well said.

I was watching a movie with my friend recently and he was so quick to point out a chess set in one of the scenes. He was so happy to point it out to me, as if he'd found checkmate in 20 or something incredible like that.

...
That sounds awesome...!! I drop a Pokémon comment here or there sometimes in the forum, so I'm glad you picked it up I never actually played on a DS. The most "recent" handheld technology I have for video games is a Gameboy Advanced. LOL. Haven't used it in years.
I was thinking to myself the other day, reflecting on the games I'd played, and I realized something. My favorites were Blue, Crystal, and Sapphire... so the blue-ish hues in color... I never put that together in my head. Lol. Random!!
OMG, and I had a dream last night that one of my friends was playing on a Gameboy. Mid game, they pulled out the cartridge cause they thought they could do that, but they hadn't saved the game so they lost all progress. Hahaha -- I'd call that a nightmare, actually. Yeah, more randomness.
Woo-hoo, anecdotal Pokémon tangents.

That was an amazing scene. Haunting, even!
^Lol
Also, I found something weird called Pokémon Battle Chess. I'm a big Pokémon fan so this caught my eye. I was searching to see if there were any Pokémon designs created after chess pieces, which surprisingly there aren't, but then I saw this game. I also found this artwork drawn by an artist but it's unofficial. I'd already seen this floating around the Internet before.
That's awesome! I'm still something of a Pokemon fan myself. At least, I still play the games but I stick mostly to the ROM hacks on my VBA emulator. Too poor to afford a DS right now but some day. Some day! I think it's my love for turn-based strategies. Sort of like chess. But I'm a lot better at Pokemon than I am at chess.
Have you ever heard of Khas? I'm a big fan of fantasy and my favorite series of novels is called Dragonlance and in that they have a chess-inspired game called Khos that features 33 pieces and has a lot of similar rules. One of the most unique rules I think is that there appears to be certain pieces which are armored on some sides so that they cannot be attacked from that direction. And you can even use a turn to rotate a piece in order to change the direction of its guard.
The official rules are in a book called More Leaves From the Inn of the Last Home but I bet you could find them in a PDF format online somewhere. I'm not sure if there is a legitimate game set out there but I'm sure some DL super fans have made their own. You should check it out sometime. The hexagon pieces of that Pokemon Battle Chess made me think of it.
