great pleasure reading comments.
Signs you have potential as a chess player

I would like to get the queen out on the very first move but I'm told that that's not within the rules. Who makes up these dumb rules, anyway?
You can move the queen on the very first move, but first you have to declare that it's a superqueen which can teleport to any square on the board.
I advise against the superqueen strategy since I hate allowing my opponent to take control of the superqueen every other move.
I disagree - if you're playing SuperQueen rules and you're White you can announce checkmate immediately. So it's best to wait until you know you're White before you announce you're playing SuperQueen Rules

Yep, exactly. Since it can teleport to any square on the board, your opponent's king is always in checkmate.

This may shock some of you.....
Study anything and add practical at the same time with anything. You will get better. Sounds crazy, I know.
Try doing so with another interest, or create one. You will be very surprised.
: )))

Capablanca was probably better than you or I'll ever be. And he was a drunkard, ladies-man, and stand-up comedian. Morphy was not a genius outside of chess either, after he changed chess entirely destroying all of the European masters he simply went back to the USA to continue his carreer as a rather mediocre lawyer.
" In 1905 Capablanca passed with ease the entrance examinations for Columbia University in New York City"

"After 1850, Morphy did not play much chess for a long time. Studying diligently, he graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, in 1854. He then stayed on an extra year, studying mathematics and philosophy. He was awarded an A.M. degree with the highest honors in May 1855.
He next was accepted to the University of Louisiana (now Tulane University) to study law. He received an L.L.B. degree on April 7, 1857, in preparation for which he is said to have memorized the complete Louisiana book of codes and laws.[5]"

You're right, these men are probably not intelligent or even above average thinkers in the least!

I just thought up another sign you may have potential as a chess player: You realize that you're not good enough to post puzzles or informative diagrams on chess.com forums without hanging pieces or blunders, so you don't.

You may ave potential as a chess player if you always check chess positions in popular culture, rewinding and pausing if necessary, even if on a date.

you are watching some awesome movie and realize you dont know whats happened in the last five minutes cause you were thinking about some chess position

I'd like to say....I saw the sign.....♫♫♪♫♪♫♫♪
I didn't. A friend told me the other day that I have a very bad sense of direction and this is why I am not any good at chess. I have always had the worst sense of direction. I get lost coming outta a toilet in a shopping centre. True.
Some true imput. Hope it helps : )))

^And then you are dismayed to find out that none in Hollywood knows how to play chess. Any movie or tv show that features a chess game has the people playing with unorthodox pieces (something like an Isle of Lewis set), the camera is panned out far enough that you can't really see the board or the moves, and either the game ends abruptly in checkmate or one of the characters says something corny like "Not if I sacrifise my queen".
Worst still, sometimes a chess set is shown in one shot, but not on a fallowing shot in the same scene. Even a movie like "Searching for Bobby Fischer" had this problems.
Check if there is a white square on the right hand side. I swear the oddds of the board being oriented correctly are less than 50/50.

I swear the odds of the board being oriented correctly are less than 50/50.
I've noticed this too. If they had chosen at random they would likely have done better. Leads me to the conclusion that they must think about it first....
If you want your queen out on the first move, just let it ride out on one of the ponys.
but you would have to move your bishop first. queens can't jump pieces.

Anyone can have the potential to be a great chess player, it just requires a lot of hard work and patience.
