How can a carpet "eat sheep and still be hungry" though.  It's made from sheep, but once it's a carpet it's done "eating" them -- i.e. no longer hungry.

TheGrobe

Corn.

I wasted way too much time on that.

A foreign army. Back in the sixteenth century the Netherlands were occupied by the Spanish. It was forbidden to make protest songs like nowadays, so there was a song about a very hungry guy, who ate a long list of everything, one of those items on the list being a church full of sheep (catholics probably), yet he could still not sleep from the hunger. He was insatiable.

You're correct with a rug, specifically a wool rug.  It can come in any color as long as you have the dye and it can be made infinitely large as long as you have enough wool to make it.

Alexander is 20 years old in 1980, but only 15 years old in 1985. How is this possible?

Alexander is the surname of two brothers born ten years apart.

John Alexander was born in 1960 and was 20 years old in 1980.

His brother Peter Alexander was born in 1970 and of course was 15 years old in 1985.

The reason I know it's possible is because my family has known the Alexander family for years. I'm glad you asked because it reminded me they still owe us some money from the late 90s. If you disagree, try to deny it or suggest some other answer instead, that means you are trying to cover up for them and thereby agree to repay their debt to me in their stead which is okay too.

Lol, nice!

Thank you for your moral support in this sensitive matter. We trust the defaulting party/poster will finally bring this to resolution and clear the Alexander name from the embarrassing situation they created for their family. $200M is no drop in the bucket, but we are glad Coolbluesky has shown by her interest in posting on the matter her assumed duty to repay in full and all shall be well.

If I had $200,000 all would be well with me too!

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but...

The last person in line says the color of the hat of the person in front of him. That person, of course, might die. Then the next person, who knows his own hat color, will say his hat color. He will say it loudly if the person in front of him has the same color, and softly if the person in front has a different color. (This is the part where I'm not sure whether it's allowed). The next person will then know his hat color, and do the same thing - loud if the person in front has the same color, and soft if he has the other color. This process is repeated with everyone in the line, and in the end everyone except the last person in line is sure to survive.

Was my answer correct?

No... that counts as bullshit-answer. There is no cheap trick like that.

Also if you have the real solution there wouldn't even be any need to ask if it is right because when you have it, you will be able to easily test the algorithm. And yes it is an algorithm and not just a very simple answer. The time of 5 minutes per person actually isn't there for nothing.

One guy gave some kind of a hint after looking it up. There is a reason why one person isn't guaranteed to live and that the information he gives is vital for everyone else.

I think the loom was a better answer, the rug is more like the, er, byproducts of eating the sheep.

I'll give the answer to the dictator-hat-color-riddle. Mark the text below to read it, it's white on white:

The last person in the line counts all red hats before him and says: "red" if the number was even and "blue" if the number was odd.

Now the next-to-last person can compare if the amount of red-hats infront of him is also even or odd. If it differs from the code that the guy behind him suggested, he knows that his hat must be red. If it's the same, his hat must be blue.

Everyone has to be very careful to not miss what the others said because they need that information as everytime someone says "red" it changes if an even or an odd number should be expected.

Here's an example of how it works with only 10 people:

rrbbrrbrrb

Last in line sees: rrbbrrbrr, so thats 6 r, so that's even. So he says "red"... unfortunately he gets shot but now the guy before him knows that he should expect an even amount of reds.

But he sees: rrbbrrbr, 5 r, Therefor he knows in order for the last guy to have seen an even amount he must have red himself and says "red".

Now it's very important for the guy before him to grasp that this means that he needs to expect an uneven amount of reds. He sees: rrbbrrb, which is an even amount. So he was the one who made it uneven and thus he also says "red".

So it once again changes to "expect even" for the guy before him. And oh look: "rrbbrr" indeed has an even amount of reds. So he must be blue and says so.

The mention of blue doesn't once again change the expected amount of reds for the guy before him. But he sees an odd amount and thus must be red by himself, once again changing what the guy before him should expect.

I think you'll get the idea.

So with 100 people everyone would have to count the red-hats infront of him and keep track of how often "red" was said so far. Still not an easy task under the immense pressure but certainly doable if you practice it.

A man worked at a high security institution. The man tried to log into his computer and the computer denied the password. He then remembered that the passwords to the computers were reset every month for security reasons. He called his boss for his new password.

The man said, "Boss, my old password is out of date."

The boss said, "Yes, it is. The new password is different, but if you listen closely you will be able to figure out the new one. Your new password has the same amount of letters as the old one, and four of the letters are the same."

The man then logged into his computer with no trouble. What was the new password? What was his old?

Here is my riddle from an actual chess game. You are playing a powerful opponent. Your opponent gives check and you only have two moves.

If you move  your king you will be checkmated next move.

You  can block the check with your queen but then you lose your queen completely.

what should you do?

1. allow the mate

2. allow your queen to be lost

3. resign

4. offer a draw before making your move.

5.  offer a draw after making your move [right after]
