The Chinese team finally clinched the gold medal in the open section of the Olympiad, 36 years since they first joined the 1978 Olympiad in Argentina. In the Turin Olympiad of 2006, they trailed by 2 points behind Armenia and only got the silver medal.
In the open section, these Asian teams are in the top 50 zone: China, India( 3rd ), Israel, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan , Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Indonesia, the Philippines and Qatar. Uzbekistan got the silver in the Manila Olympiad ( 1992 ) behind the Russians.
The South Korean women’s team has a very young member, 10-year- old Kim Yubin.
Two players can easily introduce their surnames with body language. They are Russell John Dive from New Zealand and Werner Hug from Switzerland. When they met each other , Hug won on the 93th move with white. Well, the hug is mightier than the dive this time.
