Sometimes you just can't make anyone happy. I used to play postcard
chess when the stamp was 2 cents.

Boy that is the truth. The mere price of the postcard indicates how long ago that was. That must have been in a previous life?
I appreciate what you are saying, but this isn't postal chess. And correspondence chess had mostly dedicated, experienced chess players. We had tournaments with half a dozen players. Larger tourneys maybe got over 20. There were no multiple rounds.
This site offers so much more. I'm in a couple of tourneys with over 350 people, many of them noobs. They've never played OTB or correspondence. Many lack basic social skills. Etiquette seems a foreign concept to them. In correspondence chess when you were clearly losing, you resigned. Only a fool would go through all that expense and work to continue a lost game without reasonable chances. Same with OTB. But here the poor things can't bear to see their kings topple. They seem to do anything to extend their lives. Pffft. Death row is as good as dead.
That's all well and good though. I can't and won't critisize my opponents for continuing. Anyone who does should be reported. In this I fully agree with you.
One thing that bothers me about this issue though is chess.com does not have a mechanism for advancing subsequent rounds before all games are completed. Many times round 2 players are all set to go but they have to wait for three or four meaningless games to finish. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying end these games early. Let them drag it out as long as they want to. Just start these later rounds early.
The other thing that bothers me is vacation abuse. Some premium players have 60 or more vacation days to use, and they use it. They sign up for 3 days per move but they extend this up to 4 or 5 sometimes by letting their vacation time kick in. Vacation for vacation is one thing, but to screw everyone else in your tournament because you can't live up to the terms of your agreement is another. I watched a member go on vacation for a few days every week for weeks. He was even in a no vacation tourney and wouldn't resign. Total self centeredness.
Respect the game, respect your opponent, and respect everyone else in your tournament.

I have heard many comments about people that sign up to play for 3 day games and resent people that take their full 3 days. They made a committment for 3 days, but now that they are in a winning position and want the kill and their opponent has slowed down to take full advantage of their 3 days they are whining. In actual terms this is speed chess even if everyone takes their full 3 days. I say that because we live in a computer age. I never played correspondence chess, but it is my understanding that before computer chess there was snail mail chess. With the speed of "The Postal System" you mailed your moves. Considering that it takes an average of 5 to 7 days for mail to reach it's final appointed stopping point and another 5 to 7 days for a return move. This is defintely speed chess. This is with the zip code. I am old enough to remember a time when we didn't have zip code. Comments, Questions, Anyone ever play correspondence chess?
