Sportsmanship policy

Hi everyone,

It seems that I have fallen victim to the sportsmanship policy - my computer ran out of battery whilst I was ill in bed playing a game and now I can't seem to play anyone. I'm not sure how to create a rated, open challenge so that I can re-gain my old privileges - does anyone know how to create this?

I didn’t understand your question specifically, but it doesn’t seem you played with an online person today.

No, this was a few days ago. I simply don't know how to start playing games so that I can re-gain my sportsmanship?

Here you can play: https://www.chess.com/play/online I didn’t understand what you mean by “re-gain my sportsmanship?”. Do you mean “regain my rating”?

When I try to play online, I press the green button and a message comes up saying that I've violated the sportsmanship policy (which surprises me because my computer ran out of battery once) and I can only play with friends or through creating an open, rated challenge. I don't have any friends (I have connected with 3 people - but they're not friends) and I don't know how to create an open, rated challenge? Can I simply never play again?

By the way, thank you so much for responding to my messages - I really appreciate it.

Check your email account. Maybe you will find there the reason why you are not allowed to play. And if the reason was related to your computer ran off battery, then I suggest also to contact chess.com  that this is what happened for best answer.

I think that the system thought you were breaking a rule by stalling so it limited your play. It shouldn’t last too long and if it does just contact support.

Thanks for this. I emailed them 2 days ago but haven't had a reply. I paid for a full year Diamond subscription and I can't believe they can simply stop you from playing because of one game in which your computer runs out of battery! Anyhow, I'll keep trying to find out what happened.

They take around 4 days to answer due to many things they need to do. I hope you be able to play soon!

In that case, mailing the staff would be a better option, because I haven't experienced seeing people getting blocked on live chess just because their battery has been down for once. Your live chess privileges maybe stopped currently because you've repeated this behaviour earlier. However, I still can't guarantee you that this is the truth behind your case.

Thanks realchampion12 for replying. I genuinely think it must be a mistake - I just can't see how someone can be blocked from playing. I've contacted chess.com but it's difficult being ill in bed and having to wait - a few games of chess in between sleep would be so great right now and I imagine this will be sorted once I'm better!

Good luck, and get well soon.

I truly understand your frustration. But, like said, I'm still unaware of your cause to this problem. This either genuinely might be a rare bug, or just a consequence of an earlier violation. However, you still need to contact staff to know more about it

I think trusting other members is the best in situations like these.

It's better to leave this case in the hands of a staff member. They know better. All we can do here is just to find a few causes to this problem

That’s what I suggested to the OP. However, I am saying you should trust him in cases like this. Even if he lied, he will just not get the answer he wants because of the wrong question.
