Yikes that's a lot
Staggered by numbers.
I am truely staggered by these figures. Thank goodness the moderators and chess.com work so very hard for us.
Amen, Brother!

Same. That's just... I don't even know. 70,000 abuse closures? that is just sad.
There r many millions of players that get on here so those numbers also show that the overwhelming majority on here r cool people that r respectful, etc.
Abuse closures can include whole armies of accounts being created by malicious bots, etc. that get closed before they are ever even used.
Just goes to show what being anonymous can do to people.
The 6 titled players weren't totally anonymous. Perhaps just the idea that no one is watching.

Or just not caught yet
People could put those talents to such better use. Very sad.
In what area of life do you suggest?
I just don't see cheating as a talent and those that cheat demonstrably don't have any.

Fair Play stats for August:

- 47,625 mute actions
- 41,052 accounts muted
- 68,254 abuse closures
I am not at all surprised. In completely unrelated news, there were about 170,000 new accounts added to the site last month ....
Whatever skills they are using to cheat....those skills could be used elsewhere.
Just running an engine on another app and entering moves? It's just like hiding answers up your sleeve for a test. Don't think these "skills" are transferable or they could be magicians.
My favorite explanation of cheating. I don't remember where i heard t from but i love it.
If you're going to cheat, then you might as well go on welfare. You might as well just admit you have given up on life and lack any desire to better yourself.
Not when it's about compensating for low self esteem, rather than resigning to it or actually working on improving oneself.
I wasn't thinking of the petty cheaters who cheat in a one-off fashion, transferring moves from one computer to another. I was talking about cheaters referred to in Post #10.
A lot of those accounts are just spam bots. I will not talk about bots that are used to cheat unless I am on the cheating forum where such topics are able to be talked about. The abuse category is usually for things like spamming, harassment, etc. and the fair use category is for cheaters.
A guy at our local chess club was so desperate to break 2000 that he arranged a rigged match with someone. He got caught and is serving a 3 year ban from USCF tournaments.
But did it help him with his game off the board? Cause that's all that matters.

This is the only way to look at it!
