"It would make less draws, which is what chess needs."

And would piss off most people who play chess. As a previous poster mentioned, why not just let people play the game by the rules they like and you can play by the rules you like? Seems like a better idea than forcing a rule change onto everyone who doesn't want it (i.e. most people).

Chess is a game designed to represent a war. In war it is possible to totally annihilate the enemy, and do it in such a way as to defeat the purpose of the war. Stalemate represents this dilemma. Just as chess cannot accurately mirror all aspects of war, stalemate cannot fully represent this concept.

The checkmate rule also needs to be abolished, sometimes my opponent throws all his pieces at me and I take them and then despite me winning he goes "checkmate" and all of a sudden he is supposed to win?  What a stupid rule.

hrb264

what a stupid idea

Yeah, I can't stand it when that happens! that stupid "checkmate" business definitely needs to go

ninjazrcool

stalemate is the last hope for a loosing king lol

Conflagration_Planet

I stalemated a won game a while back, and I about puked, but I still don't think it should be abolished.

I started this thread 700 posts ago... havent checked it for months and just by chance I saw it now again...

The thing that strikes me.... is the number of people (that play chess -- a game of intellect) commenting with utterly idiotic logic and very primitive thinking level. If these people are at such a low level, why on earth did they pick chess of all things as a hobby?  (Then again, they are stupid, so maybe its not surprising after all)

To be honest with the number of plebs in the world, Im surprised civilization is where it is .... but then again, its a handful of geniuses only that make the progress in each epoch.. which the plebs then proceed to leech off in entitled fashion.

"he must have drawn a won position, now he is crying about it"
and other such witty one liners (also note how often these comments reoccur, its amazing)... even though there is a clearly thought out and reasoned long post on the 1st page.
This kind of reasoning is actually a reflection of the person typing such things... he is (in his primitive way) projecting what he does in his experience.. and thinks everyone else reasons like him. (this is a lack of "theory of mind" most childern aquire this level by around age 5)

Throughout the 700 odd posts I have counted on my hand only 5 or so posters who replied with well thought out and insightful comments... its sad sad reality.

Conflagration_Planet

Are those five posters the ones who agreed with you?

Monster_with_no_Name: would you care to reply to my post then and enlighten me with your superior intellect?

I am initially surprised by the op, which has some valid arguments and does deserve some consideration. However, I'm not surprised many people don't agree with such an unorthodox statement.

dschaef2

Lol you have some kind of complex OP.
