Stop complaining!!

Has your head been peer-reviewed and published in a reputable journal?
Anyway, whether you agree with them or not, there's three rules for posting in Chess.com.
#1 - Respect others. Do not be mean.
#2 - No profanity, swearing, or inappropriate language or topics.
#3 - No religious or political debate or commentary in these forums.
Erik wants it to be a family orientated website and, if you have to resort to swearing, you're probably too dumb to be posting anything meaningful anyway.
What do we lose by not swearing in the forums?

Without parent permission.
But even if the comments were inappropriate. Fine. Suspend his account, he deserves it. But seriously, stop whingeing. I'm sure that we have all heard worse, and let's just stop making some whole fussy self-righteous parade about it.

Can anyone please tell me what was said?
He was just bagging Eric and other random things and swearing

He was doing a lot of swearing & VERY offensive words in about 15 different posts at various people. it wasn't just one word. Just think of words you wouldnt want someone to say to your mother, your wife, your sisters, or any other female member of your family or friends & you might get the idea of what he said. It was far beyond just a few offensive words.

You missed my point. I'd like to recommend this site to my elementary students so they can visit what is probably the best chess education web site. His profanity will make that impossible. There are plenty of forums where you can talk as you please. This is a chess site! What he is doing makes no sense in the context of what this site is all about. Where is the moderator?
I agree with Musikamole. This site is trying to be the premier site for CHESS. They want it to be family friendly. I recommend this site to the kids I tuter, but it's frustrating to know that kids on this site will be subjected from time to time with obscenities that should not be on a family site. Please use common sense here as there are children here to, trying to learn & play chess.
were you raised in a catholic commune or something? kids swear. pretty much all of them. I assure you this is true in 90% of communities in the world, based on a study I made up in my head. Luckily, my head is a reliable source. I think.
This may be true but its certainly no reason to expose all kids to vulgar language. My parents are gone now but there are certain words they never heard me say. My sons are now young adults and there are certain words I have never heard them say. It's called "respect" and it doesnt mean they never use such words. I am now 56 and I simply dont use vulgar filthy language at all. I also censor what I may say more in the presence of females as well as children and my elders...... all out of respect.

it has been reviewed by a peer; my split personality, who is a professor of social sciences at the university of neverland.
danielle, Its like you live in a parallel universe or something. my mother, father, brother, aunts, uncles, friends, girlfriend etc. all swear. Not to be hip or edgy, but because thats how people talk to each other. No they are not inarticulate, emotionally stunted, or rude. They are just people. All of those words turtle said: in the Oxford English dictionary. Why? because they are part of the language. You choose to be offended by them. No one else. You.
yes trant, you are right, there are rules. Its that I don't like tattle-tales and I don't like prissies- reminds me of being seven years old.

Tarihkhk you said,

It wasn't just the words it was the way he was using them towards people. He didnt just hit his thumb with a hammer & say F... He was using them in a hateful manner against people. There are a lot of racially offensive words in the dictionary too. That doesn't make it right for people to use them against other people. Just because words exist doesn't mean it's ok to use them against people. Im sure your relatives use swear words, but i doubt they use them in a hateful manner against each other or other people.

you're assuming that your definition of 'vulgar' is the same as mine, or anyone else's. My father has the same hang-up, and I'm not saying its necessarily an age thing, but I basically am. How is 'dick' vulgar but 'penis' not, for example. They are just labels; words don't hold some ineffable quality that dictates their offensiveness, but it is the people around who decide what words are taboo. 'Damn' was offensive back in ye olde England, but now its regularly suggested as a substitute for 'offensive' language.
"What was taboo yesterday is commonplace today, and tame tomorrow."me, 2009.
My friend's parent had a very good rule; "you are allowed to swear, but not at anyone". This seems reasonable, realistic and well thought out.

To be fair, he was offensive about every race, nationality and creed... no one was singled out for special attention.
The guy was a twit and got what was coming to him:

Let's draw a line under this now and move on, eh?

yeah, but 'pinch of salt' comes in to play here. sense of humour failure is symptomatic of this forum (Its happening to me now). Plus context is always important; he was a troll. He was trying to kick up a fuss by making broad sweeping statements and dropping the n-bomb a few times. Thats kind of what made it funny.
It also worked. we're still talking about it, aren't we?

Your father has the same respect/manners you mean ? You call it a "hang-up" , I don't. The context in which certain words are used make a great deal of difference as well. Men like to brag about their sexual exploits/expertise I dont know any men who do so in the presence of their mothers... do you know such men or do so yourself ? Its called RESPECT, look it up.

Well said NM Reb , at least the dude did'nt last long, thx to the moderators, yo!
How much does anyone here want to bet that the vast majority of people complaining are the free members?
If all us free members are here to do is make up the numbers and we are not entitled to an opinion then scrap free membership! If you lost all the free members the site would be diminished greatly.Maybe you should ask yourselves why so many people don't pay? Maybe we don't think it's worth paying for? I certainly am getting annoyed with being told to shut up by arrogant people who think that because they've paid they are superior to me. Like I said, if you don't want us,and I quote 'freeloaders' then please stop offering a free service. It is, by the way, advertised as a free service! I will now crawl back to my dirty freeloaders hole and be quiet!

we are thankful to the chess.com staff members for their hard work to improve chess.com. CONGRATS, & ALL THE BEST for future..

I don't what you solve by complaining about the complaining...
...or complaining about complaining about complaining

It doesn't matter if you are a paid member or a free member. Yes everyone has a right to complain. But if you are going to remain on this site complain in a constructive manner. Don't just say "This site sucks" or "They really blew it". Just keep telling the staff what problems you are having. And if you really really really don't like this site why do you stay here??? If I don't like something, I sure as heck do not keep using it. Doesn't make sense.
How does this make it appropriate? They do other things as well they shouldn't, so should we allow them to do whatever they want? The BOY needs to be put over someones knee and taught some manners and respect!
