Chess , being the world"s most popular game , if a media channel took the risk of televising for example: an Australia versus England Competition ( The Chess Ashes ) would soon reap the benefits . Sponsorship ? Advertising endorsements from Chess Paraphernalia Merchant"s / books- c=p game devices / T shirts . whom, that plays chess would not watch such a T.V Program ? . the products that could be advertised are endless . To have less draws ? the player making the worst mistake ( T.V viewers could vote on that one, as happens on so many programs. The late Kerry Packer , took on the stuffy Cricket establishment with world series cricket/ the doomsayers predicted it had no chance of succeeding , Packer laughed all the way to the bank . he realised anything (popular ) could not fail. T.V coverage is the way to make Chess even more popular.
Suggestions
A way to have less draws:
a win 3 point a draw 1 point and 0 for losing. I think this is called the sofia rules.
I hate agreed draws and I think it destroys chess. people agree to draws before the game openly even in front of tournaments director.
Ways to make chess more popular so maybe it can get TV coverage.:
maybe not TV but having chess players write columns in local newspapers about chess events is a way to tell society that chess is there.
Draws are part of the game. I dislike all this sudden-death, blitz nonsense. It's not like chess is spectator sport. it doesn't need to be made "more exciting". The best way to do things is the right way.
Why isn't it a good idea to have highest rated player play the champion? Or have top six rated players play each other for the right?
30 minute tv shows devoted to chess. I've seen some on youtube. They are very good.
We need more native English speakers at the top level. English makes things popular.
Chess needs a star.
Just wondering , i would like to host a tournament , and is it allowed to have a prize for the winner. the prize being a lightning ridge black opal ring. as an ex-miner i have different size opal rings . i buy and sell / not proposing for commercial gain , just thinking of a promotion . illegal to give fake opal to anyone , so my intention is bona fide . any suggestions on proposal ? ...
I think it is legal. I was entering a tournament and they had exclusive wristwatches for the winners of various groups. I assume you mean otb tournament. I didn't win one.
otb ?
otb means not playing on the internet. but playing in real life. "on the board" OTB.
I hope pay per view is going to fail.
why? how much money do they think we have to spent on TV I ready pay a lot of money for subscription and for Canal+ movie channels. plus tv licens.
but Tv station keep on pushing for more money, we might as well hand over salaries so we finally can get some could TV.
but it gets even worse they make the TV stations so thin(reruns) that you have to use pay per view in order to see something.
I still get my videos from blockbuster Tv stations shouldn't profit from sending bad movies /entertaining by offering PPV
Thank you boppyDK for defination of query'' Thought it was o turn based . in regards to pay per view - Fox Pay Per View in Australia ,has the rights to so much sport and other programs and with the market cornered / you pay for access or you do not watch most sport. Owned by News-corp , one of Murdocks myriad of companies in Australia. The N.R.L is about to sighn a 1.4 billion $ deal with Fox Sports , so in the near future , sport and blockbuster movies and other T.V free shows will be a thing of the past.
Do have any idea's that FIDE could make that would improve chess and make it more appealing. Maybe you have a solution for one of the following
If you do then why not send FIDE a polite email using the following link
