Tactics rating dropping down

I do not like the way the tactics are scored. I only do them because I need the practice. They are stingy with the rewards for quick success and malicious with penalties for failures. I like the lessons better.
Looking through your last 25 (and mine for that matter recently), it does appear that algorithm might be a bit weighted towards the lower end now.
in my last 25 games i literary got 1 puzzle higher rated (~30 points higher), it feels like they changed it again, last week i was getting even couple hundreds higher now and then and it felt quite balanced but now it's always low rated puzzle with impossible target times

don't making progress for a long time now, if I solve a tactic correctly I'll get like 7 points or maybe 9, if I fail it goes 12 points down..

Progress is really tough to measure. Mine goes up and down a lot recently. I can maintain it around 1200 all the time, but have been 1300s before. I have also dropped below 1000. Once you get 7 in a row right and get a total of 12 points, then miss 3 and lose 36 points, the points disappear fast. Then I get mad and lose more and begin doubting how I ever solved any of these things. I do like getting a -14 for missing a mate in 1 or something like that, so I am overall okay with the punishing scoring. It makes me learn my lesson so I don't miss it again.
I have reasoned that some days I am more tired, less focused and just overall distracted. The TT is my favorite activity on here. I probably do 50 or so every day. A few first thing in the morning and then some more when I get home from work.

I became a supporting members last July; to play TT more. my rating went from 700s to 1099. then I crashed. I have struggled to keep over 800. I even reset TT once. I know I am not very good but my goal has been to improve. I am not improving and it has stopped being fun. I will not be a supporting member when this runs out.

Personally, my theory of training learned from music is that it is better to be slow and right. Speed will come with time. This is especially true for me since one of my faults is the tendency to want to rely on intuition rather than solid calculation.
As a result, I use a tactics trainer at another site. YMMV

I too think it's frustrating. My rating is stalled as well and every time I start to make slow progress, I soon quickly lose all ive gained. I usually lose points by making a good move when a better move was available. So I agree that taking more time will help because the penalty for being not quite right is high, while the reward for being completely right is low.
I notice that what remains remarkably steady is my percentage of correct answers, always 64-65% over thousands of attempts. I do believe the selection algorithm keeps it that way somehow.
But to me the real question is whether you think you are improving, not whether your rating is. If not, then you are wasting your time and should use it more productively. I do notice that I am slowly getting better at seeing certain patterns, so for me I do think there is benefit. I tend to solve more problems that have a higher rating over time. The only benefit to having your rating increase is that you see more difficult problems, but with a 2/3 pass rate, it's hard to argue that I should be getting harder ones!

i have been working on the problems- when i miss it i will play through it on analysis board- see the "eureka moment" and move on
recently, however, i feel much like a kid in school who is moving on to algebra/equations before learning the multiplication tables
when we first learn/memorize the multiplication tables though we might not totally understand the "nuts and bolts" we can bust out "6x8=48" and go from there and eventually the deeper understanding sinks in
therefore, i decided,to work through a tactics book from start to finish (1001 beginning chess exercises?) before attempting tactics trainer again
since most/if not all of my time on chess.com is via the app i cant easily adapt the tactics trainer to go by specific motif and whatnot so doing the tactics book cover to cover is my solution
it helps working on motifs 1 by 1; then going over the same problems over and over- with the problems i miss the "solution" is often first memorized- "i remember this puzzle- the answer is ..." eventually the reason why "..." works is "xxx" sinks in
i am probably 1/2 way through the book and it feels like i am getting more production out of my tactics training time- i am not getting hung up on rating, i get more repetitive reinforcement on specific puzzles i have problems with, and the training overall feels more specific
in a few weeks i'll give the tactics trainer another whirl

A player need to develop the ability to calculate at least three moves deep, any player can do this. Linear calculation is important skill to develop and second is tactical pattern recognition. The op is missing simple tactics and mates and a possible reason could be can't calculate three moves deep, must see it in your mind clearly like a walk in the park. My tactical rating is going up because I put a lot in tactics study, and developing my tactical pattern recognition. Don't get discourage and keep at it, when you get it wrong review it and keep reviewing until you learn this pattern. I don't care how fast I solve a problem but I care if I get it right. Four years ago my tactical rating was at high 1900 to low 2000 and now I am at 2251 and trying for 2300.
