Takeback denials after mouse slips (not just here)

I think that if someone's mouse slips, they should be entitled a takeback.  They intended to make another move but they made an obvious mistake. Here is an example game in which a mouse slip occurs:

I know this is going to start a lot of controversy, but I respect all of your opinions and I was just showing you how I stood.

Did I not say in the topic name, (not just here)?

I would never give a take back and never ask for one.I don't care what the feeble excuse is. You move it - you lose it.

Its not a "feeble excuse".  It's a valid one.  The player who did it intended to make another move (like, in my example, trade queens) but they accidentaly made another move that was an obvious slip.  I for one would NOT want to win that way.

This usually happen in blitz games, when you are rushing to make a move as quick as possible.  No time for being careful with your mouse.

You're completely right.  You don't have time to be careful with your mouse, but your opponent must spend 5 seconds or so off his clock to fix the mistake that YOU made out of pure carelessness.  You have 5 minutes to play the game, you can't spend an extra half second dropping on the right square?

After a takeback is made, the time on the clocks return to what they were BEFORE the move was made.

Takebacks are not a part of the game. Slow down, be more careful with your mouse and do not expect anyone to give you a takeback. You shouldnt even ask for them, just resign if the slip was that bad and play another game. I bet you call "slip its" in marbles too.... Wink

wouldn't the problem be the difficulty in working out what the reason for the mistake had been? I don't think so, because then if you say put your queen in a stupid place, and then when waiting fo it to be taken, realise that there could have been a mate in a couple of moves, and then you take it back, then you in effect, get an extra move

And losing will be your consequence until you learn to be careful with the mouse.

Again you have no time for that in blitz!

how can you tell whether someone just slipped with their mouse or whether they wer just stupid, anyway?

sometimes when someone makes an obvious mistake i offer to draw the game, otherwise not, and it really depends what mood i'm in that day.

Of course, use common sense.  If they were taking a lot of time on their clock and then made a stupid move and claimed it had been a mouse slip (when it didnt) then there would be no way I'd accept a takeback.

It should be pretty obvious what is a mouse slip and what isn't.

Since my waffle posts were deleted, I'll just have to stick to saying that this topic is way overdiscussed and the bottom line is that your opponent can give you a takeback if they're nice but you shouldn't expect one and it's your own responsibility to be in control of your mouse.  In general, it depends on the time control/who I'm playing:  In a game against a master I'll give a takeback, or at time controls longer than blitz I'll give a takeback.  Otherwise, it's my opponent's problem.  Anyway, I think everyone at chess.com has seen this question asked at least 100 times which is why I came out with the waffle posts right off the bat, even though they were deleted .

Well, I didn't delete them!

I wasn't saying on here... I was simply saying online chess in general.

I think Instead of a take back button there should be a fix option. This would allow you to move the piece again, but only that piece.

This website is basically trying to emulate playing chess in real life. and in real life you dont slip and accidently put s piece down in a spot you didnt mean to. so for this reason there should be a take back button

but at the same time you shouldnt be able to put a piece down then realize you should have moved another piece then take your move back and move that second piece. In a real game of chess when your piece is down, its down.

So to compromise there should be an option where you can take back your move but you can only move the piece you were gonna move anyway.
