Takeback Request Option

Sort:

In my 15 minute games often I play with lack of sleep.  This blunder I have made 3 times now

These were in my 15 minute games on another site. So, I lose, so what? I can make back the rating points later.

I do not ask for or give "take backs"  This is much easier than having to decide when to give them or when not to give them.

So, your your preferences are more important than others?

Yes!

In the deathmatch Saturday Polgar thought Short mouse slipped and offered him a draw for it.   He declined, and said it was not a mouse slip and he did not know why he played the move.

As much as I can empathize with the reasons for takeback, it would have to come with the rule "No forum topics about someone would not let me takeback my move".  Really there should not be takeback.

In my opinion, you should give takebacks if its obvious your opponent had a mouseslip... For example, if he moves his queen one square short or something like that

A lot of people seem to have it backwards here. If someone blunders, I WANT them to take it back. Unless I'm on a team or it's a rated game, I want to play against the best chess analysis my opponent can offer. What good is a win on a blunder? I have no desire to win that way.

The only reason i came to chess.com over some other websites i had tried before, was because they DONT have the takeback option

BeneathBlue

I wish I could offer a takeback to a rated game against my son, he is new to chess and he forgot I could en passant capture his pawn move, severely opening his king position.  It sucks I can't back up this great game.  This option needs to be added.  Not everybody is a competitive chess purist...some of us are mentors and teachers, who need this flexibility.

I play ocasionally with my father, and he do make a mistakes - he is playing slow, as he is trying to visualize game by moving peaces and sometimes drop or put i back in wrong place.
Currently lichess is getting down so I was thinking maybe i will switch to chess.com (as I watch streamers use it and I would like to try it), but I can't find how to enable takebacks, and how to "give" him some extra time (when we sometimes get interrupted by "outside unexpected forces" for few minuts but we still want to finish those games).

So yea ...
There should be an option (somewhere in settings) to enable takebacks and option to grant oponent time while playing unranked games !
Not saying it should be a default, or it should be allowed on ranked games, but there should be one on unranked...

You can do takebacks in unrated and it has to be enabled within the challenge.

Several times playing bots I have clicked too quickly or inaccurately so that the piece went to the wrong unintended square. It is very frustrating to have the bot continue the play after an accidental move to the wrong square. They should be a take back option to correct these accidental mistakes where one moves accidentally to the wrong square. It just ruins the game to not allow this. It's unrated anyway so what is the problem??

There is a takeback option with the bots. Those games aren't rated.

They can give you hints too.

Options

After you've chosen who you want to play, you'll be able to choose some options. Just like the old computer, you can choose what kind of assistance you want to use, or if you want any help at all.

I play as: You can choose to play as white, random, or black!

file-Q7WzeE7IEY.pngMode: Choose Challenge, Friendly, Assisted, or Custom to decide how much help you want to use!

file-GExzLs3J6S.pngCustom options: If you choose custom, you'll be able to decide what assistance to enable or disable:

file-cBbiP66KIH.pngTime: Games against the computer are not timed by default, but if you want to, you can add a timer to practice playing against the clock!

Type: Standard or Chess960!

Hold your mouse over the question mark to see what each option does!

Try to beat them all!

Defeat each personality without any help at all, and they will be marked with 3 crowns!

file-p0RYrRb8NJ.png

If you use some help, you'll only get 1 or 2 crowns, depending on what kind of assistance.

How many personalities can you get 3 crowns against?

NOTE: Since the computer is unrated, games with these personalities or with the engine will not affect your rating, even if you use no assistance at all.

Try playing the new computer personalities right now!
