I fail to see what this would add.. imo the game is perfect. Why mess with a great thing, even fischer random is a bit offsetting for myself but at least it isn't adding one piece stuck awkwardly on the board.
The 7th Piece. New Material introducing more modern dynamics to chess.

It might add a stimulating enviromental factor to the game I think. I might try it out later otb :) The thing is, warfare is no longer a situation where two armys line up opposite each other and slug out bloody murder. It has changed, and I would like to see new interpretations of chess in its ongoing evolution (:

I think the jester piece should be an ornamental piece with jewels and the cool thing about it is people will vie for the most exquisite jester.

Nice! I was thinking maybe similar to bishop but with no groove and a sqaure medical cross curving down from all four points for the hat.

I have studied chess for a year and am looking to spice it up thats all... your ideas are welcome!
I find that the classical game will take moments to learn but a lifetime to master. It would be good to respond to this idea with new ideas that change the shape of the game so that average Neuro's like myself would have a level playing field with other people interested in the game of chess. It would certainly throw all that book work we do out the window and add a fun new and flexible alternative to the mayhem. If you have nice Ideas about what peices you would like to see on the chess board please post them here/.

I think there should be a piece that can teleport other pieces.
It can teleport any piece that is 1 square away diagonally to any of the other 3 squares on it's corners that are not occupied with a friendly or enemy piece. The only excption would be pawns and the king.

There are dozens if not hundreds of complicated and very interesting and challenging board games out there. If what you want is to spice it up and learn new things, then the opportunity is already out there.
Let's face it, chess is largely about pattern recognition and memorization. It is a beautiful game, it has been gawked at throughout history as an entertaining and intellectual art form. Fischer tried to revelutionize it(and more than once) with chess 960, now I would like to engage you in thinking about the future of chess: the classic game will forever be established, but adding a fun new dynamic element to the game, making it more positional tacticaly and apt for the modern world, could be indulging and a stimulus for more people to get into the game!
-The 7th Piece-
Here is my idea: The Jester Peice (peace!) acts like a modern military medic on the board, the opposition cannot take material if the Jester peice is directly one sqaure diagonal behind it (like a supporting pawn). It is worth approximately somewhere between bishop and Castle (you do the math), starting somewhere on the perimeter of the board (or off the board>? your ideas a welcome!) like a4h5 or h4h5 where it shouldnt interupt the opening style of play, only one "medic" per team is available, it can maneuvere in any direction 2 squares and jump (or sneak) across enemy pieces and so setting up outposts deep in enemy terrain or alternatively hang back and reinforce a seige defence. It cannot take, but can be taken and is not replacable. It can't rescue prisoners by itself. Ideally, It is not essential for victory but it can help dynamically in tactical positions. You can either advance it up the board attackingly to set up outposts for knights for other pieces or play defensively using it to support your integral structure. It can move about the battle field with some tempo but is likely vunerable for attack.
If you have any comments on this idea or your own ideas and imaginings about new material being introduced into the game of chess please post them here-
