I’m fairly new to the clubhouse here but it seems like the vast majority of my games end either in my opponent aborting or resigning. This isn’t Watergate. Is this common? It’s pretty discouraging.

Unfortunately, I would bet it has to do with the 400 blitz rating you have reached.

If you improve your rating a bit, the percentage of aborts and auto-resign will drop off.

At the 1500 blitz level I play at they are rare.

No, but at that 400 rating level, you are playing with young kids who don't know chess etiquette, people with bad connections, etc.    

I looked at one game where you won but had to wait out a 6+ minute timeout from your opponent. That type of stuff is really annoying.

In the above position, you missed a mate in 1. Perhaps doing tactics problems would help you to spot such opportunities.

If you had seen it, you could have avoided the wait.
