Definitely Black is winning.
The Chessist's Dilemma: 9 Pawns for a Queen
How about this position? Would you rather play as black or white?
Three knights for a queen? I think I'll take white here: the queen won't be great, when knights coordinated with the pawn structure will start squeezing black to death.
I put the first position into my stockfish phone app (much less reliable than the PC version, mind you) and by move 9 the pawns started dropping. Wasn't close, which wasn't what my gut instinct told me. Goes to show I have a lot to learn about exploiting open lines.
The second position (with the knights) shows about -.1 at depth 21. With bishops it's about +.4. I believe the minor pieces end up tripping over one another, especially the knights.
Stockfish says White has a +8 advantage with 1 e4 (20 ply).
The pieces relative values change in certain situations. For example, Capablanca said that the two Bishops are worth 1/2 a pawn more than B + N, but he doesn't find the B itself to be any better than N.

I'm sure Alpha Zero could find a win here for black.
Apparently great minds think alike.

My very first thread on chess.com.
Ha! I guess so. I was kind of skeptical that my pondering was in fact original.
