Ah, a much more realistic thread than "who is the best ever." Because amateurs couldn't for the life of them tell the difference between a 2300 and a 2800 there is no point in splitting hairs on whether karpov is better than lasker and so on. So having a popularity contest instead, is much more straightforward, if not the same thing.
The coolest chessplayers

Yeah, I think it's a little more comfortably subjective than theorizing about time-machines

The definitions of "cool" and "chess player" are antithetical, as this thread demonstrates. Learn to embrace your nerdiness. I did, and I'm a ...happy guy now.
I've no doubt you embraced your "nerdiness" long before you started playing chess, electricpawn.
1. You are what you is.
2. How did you find out when I started playing chess?
3. People in glass chess websites shouldn't throw stones.

Good lord that's nerdy. Most people would have to study "nerdiness" for years before posting their three points of light

Can't we just get along and have a drink?

Spassky was pretty cool, I think. I met him once on a tennis court and asked him to play tennis (I was a teenager then) but he was waiting for a woman.

Wow, meeting Spassky! (pretty cool in itself)...
Yeah, the damned woman had to show up just as we were about to play tennis, lol.

Then again, popularity is fleeting.
No doubt, favourable popularity should be avoided today. As it's almost insulting at this point

so summarizing:
coolest players
1-pdela
2-stenitz
3-morphy
4-capablanca
5-fisher
more or less
You are the only person NOT ALLOWED to judge the coolest chess players, pdela. Or, to post videos of fake UFOs. But...you can post videos of Barcelona, and Federer beating Nadal in the Year-End Championships!

Federer so gud, that's not problem for me, I think Murray has to explote and start to win Grand-Slams

Barcelona suck balls.
rofl
I really, really hope you mean that as in, "I don't like Barca," rather than, "Barca can't play futbol."
Any good 80s or 90s football team(including rivaldo's and figo's barca, not even to mention the team of laudrup and co) would simply DEMOLISH the present day barca as well as any other big football club, and for sure the line back in ronaldinho's days(probably the biggest travesty of a fooball player ever)
Though I simply have always hated their slow, boring and passive play.
Organized football nowadays, has very little to do with playing and winning the game itself. Perhaps only in the eyes of the spectators. For those who make part of it it's a quite different story yet only natural.
not sense.
you're the only person in the world who thinks that way.
also, I have to say,
it makes not sense
