Ah, a much more realistic thread than "who is the best ever." Because amateurs couldn't for the life of them tell the difference between a 2300 and a 2800 there is no point in splitting hairs on whether karpov is better than lasker and so on. So having a popularity contest instead, is much more straightforward, if not the same thing.

Spassky was pretty cool, I think. I met him once on a tennis court and asked him to play tennis (I was a teenager then) but he was waiting for a woman.
