The Godfather Gambit

As the name suggests, you offer the opponent a piece to take and they have no choice but to take it like you had a gun to their head.

Allivefr

very cool, ill try it out

Nakamura plays the Godfather Gambit forcing his opponent to resign.

JuergenWerner

King does not have to take queen.

When a GM puts a gun to your head it ain't loaded with blanks. The Black Queen captures the White Bishop for free on the next move if the Black King doesn't take the Queen.

Then white loses the queen by either hxQ or QxQ

Black is attacking White.  The Black Queen is in no danger if it captures the White Bishop on f6. Could you please clarify how hxQ or QxQ occurs?

The opponent nearly died of fright when Black delivered the Godfather Gambit. He resigned immediately although he could have just exchanged Queens and played on.

Best line for White to continue.

This time the Godfather Gambit is delivered by the Black Bishop. White resigns immediately. Notice the pressure on two squares in front of the White King. White can't defend both squares.

What if Black didn't play the Godfather Gambit? Does he still win? See a possible solution below.

This is not the way to deliver a Godfather Gambit. Storming the opponent King's bunker and exchanging Queen's may get you an ugly win. But, the game won't be remembered for its brilliance.

Mickdonedee

This is not how to deliver the Godfather Gambit.

This is the correct way to play it.

That's one variation. Another effective method is to dangle the King from an upper floor window and threaten to drop him unless he resigns.

In this position, Garry Kasparov doesn't quite have the resources to deliver the Godfather Gambit for a checkmate. But he can deliver the Godfather Gambit to the Black Queen for a quick resignation.

If the game continued with the capture of the Black Queen and eventual checkmate.

How would I continue to play if they counter the gambit?

The opponent cannot counter the Godfather Gambit. The Godfather Gambit usually results in a checkmate or quick resignation. The resignation may not be due to an imminent checkmate but can also be due to a fatal deficit in material where prolonging the game would be futile.

Mickdonedee

Once again, Kasparov delivers the Godfather Gambit which results in a quick resignation.

Had the game continued, Black would lose its Queen resulting in a checkmate.

Mickdonedee

The Black Queen delivers the deadly Godfather Gambit. As usual, the opponent resigns immediately realizing that checkmate is imminent.

Let's continue the line to checkmate.

The Godfather Gambit is when you make them an offer they can't refuse.

Exactly. Black should have resigned immediately. You can't win or draw once the Godfather Gambit has been played against you. Can I ask you how you inserted that board with all the moves and the board set at a specific position?

Mickdonedee

In this game see Black mess up an attempted Godfather Gambit. Then resign when White delivers the Godfather Gambit correctly.
