Has anyone out there played Go,a game of strategy popular in Japan,as well as China.If so,how does it stack up against chess as a game of strategy,Id like to hear from people who have played it.

I used to play at a GO club in China Town San Fransisco.     The Elderly Kung Fu Gentleman with long white beards were the only players i ever found ,   At age 17 we left San Fransisco and i forgot how to play because players are rare unless you hang out in China or San Fransisco.

Yes ,  the game is much more ancient than even chess.  and yes the world of calculations and strategies is very exciting and elegant.  The Elders used to give me a handicap of nine beads much the same as in chess when we give a beginner a handicap of a Queen.     Yes, GO is in the same IQ level as chess in that there are thousands of ways to win or lose a game....tenthdoor

Like all things Japanese, the original came from China.

Chess is a single battle.

Go is thousands of years ahead of its time. Go is like the trench warfare on a continental scale of WW1.

From a dramatic point of view, Go is less dramatic than chess.

Chess lends itself better to storytelling, ala

X-Men

Queen to Play (Joueuse)

The Mighty Pawns

The Thomas Crown Affair (the original)

etc . . .

The list is endless.

@oxslayer

You can play Go, in emulation.

This is the prototype of The Many Faces of Go.
