The only thing that will beat Magnus....is age.

Magnus is about to mark his 8th year as World Champion, as the hapless Nepo collapses before our eyes.  And Nepo isn't going out in a good way. Indeed, it appears that the quality of opposition to Magnus is steadily deteriorating since he first took the crown in 2013.

With 8 years of the title in hand, Carlsen will have surpassed his immediate predecessors Anand (6 years) and Kramnik (7 years), and he's getting into Karpov territory (10 years).

I don't doubt this will happen - there is nobody out there, from any country, who seems ready to beat him. Whether he surpasses Gazza in years held (15 years) is now a matter of age and endurance.

Magnus is a gigachad. Unfortunately, God is probably gonna make some balance changes and nerf him, so…

Actually, despite the deficit, Nepo is going along in a very good way. At his press conferences, he's still talking positive, been realistic about what has happened, has added touches of humour, and still believes that he can win a game which could make the final stages very interesting.

Age.

And tax lawyers.

I think Firouzja is the only person that could beat him in WCC but in a few years

Press Conference Game 8 :-

Reporter: What do you think is the difference between bouncing back in a World Championship and bouncing back in a normal tournament?

Nepo: I will tell you when I bounce back.

Ha!!! happy.png Classic!!!

Carlsen has a style that is less affected by ageing, like Capablanca, Smyslov, Karpov.
Those with styles like Alekhine, Tal, Fischer, Kasparov are affected more from ageing.

The only thing that ended the career of most world champions was age.  The only half-exception was during the Russian era, when they were really cranking them out of their school system.  And even then you had several who lasted a long time.  So, yeah, Carlsen is best, and it will be time that takes him down (though he's likely more than halfway through his time by now).

Very wise thought.

With the such big patience.

That firouza kid doesn't have any counter to magnus' top strategy  which is to tire out his opponents. Magnus is in good physical shape whereas firouza appears very lousy. I highly doubt he can come out on top in an eight hour long battle

Firouzja has the potential to dethrone Magnus, but he will first have to prove himself in the next Candidates' Tournament for which he already is qualified.

The 2nd game of the present match shows that Carlsen can be beaten, but it is hard to do so and Nepo failed to do it.

maybe not, but he wouldn't collapse after like nepo is here

To bad Magnus cant hand pick his challengers like Lasker did.  He could stay champion for quite awhile.

Firo isn’t playing magnus for like 2 years anyways(if he wins the next candidates)

hm.

Tal played some of his best chess in the 70's, When he beat Capablanca's unbeaten streak, twice.

And Garry was world #1 for nearly 20 years.

Not sure on that.
