Was this Travis Dane person a GM? If not, don't waste my time. Chance doesn't favour anything, it doesn't have a preference. I guess you'll argue how your silly quote has some deeper meaning, but I have no interest.

I agree!

The French is simple and honest. With 1.e4, White attacks f7. With 1...e6, Black tells White to think strategically.

I don't really agree. Do you think the Winawer Poisoned Pawn (or even the 0-0 lines) are simple and honest? How about the Tarrasch lines with 3...Be7 where black plays g5 and h5?

Cat-Balloon

was Travis Dane a GM ?

Vlad, could you not have just tried to understand the spirit of the post ?

Was it too much to ask ?

3... a6 is better for black in the tarrasch

Yeah if you want to utilize the tarrasch to the best of its ability, 3. a6 is unquestionably the best, and probably winning in most variations.

Most things are too much to ask from me, I become over encumbered very easily.

lol sure

ThrillerFan will tell you 3...c5 is like winning for black or something. Tarrasch is a good opening and it's tough for either side if you're playing a prepped opponent

lot of people complaining about the French defense today. the problem obviously originated with it being a bust to the 4 move mate, causing most players to sink in their seats whenever it was played, so it went into the collective consciousness of chessers as the most unpleasant to face defense to 1.e4 there is.

The remedy is to realize white still has the extra move and black was only trying to stop mate in 4. take heart that you can still checkmate black, you will just have to wait a few more moves.

@2Q1C I guess its time to educate these cave dwelling chessits once again. If they peeked out from under their rock once in a while, they'll know that it's the only reasonable continuation for black under any circumstance of the tarrasch.

if they dwell in a cave, why would you look for them under a rock ?

You do know that it's possible to have rocks in a cave right? What are you even arguing? Also caves are made of rocks.

Cat-Balloon

have you ever comprehended a single response to you on any of your threads ? your head seems to be not only in the wrong century, but in the totally wrong millennium.

Ahh these people. They watch a video and believe that the world has just started. The ideas behind 3...a6 were already explored since Keres–Botvinnik 1948! This is mostly a different move order to avoid some annoying alternatives for White.

I'm sorry but it's difficult to respect the opinion of a flagger.

Cat-Balloon

i mean the guy can't tell the difference between a wall and a cave.
