Longest opening right?
idk maybe
name to long
How about the Semi-Slav Defense: Main Line, Meran, Blumenfeld, Sozin, Ståhlberg Variation?
I suspect there are longer opening variations, but this (the Spassky) is definitely the longest that I have seen.
OP: "This is perhaps the longest variation of opening theory I´ve ever seen"
Botvinnik Semislav: "Hold my beer"
Well this variation goes 18 moves just short: Sicilian Defense: Open, Najdorf, Poisoned Pawn Variation Accepted, 10. f5 Nc6 11. fxe6 fxe6 12. Nxc6 bxc6 13. e5 dxe5 14. Bxf6 gxf6 15. Ne4 Be7 16. Be2 h5 17. Rb3 Qa4 18. Nxf6
That is the name of the variation here are the moves on a board:
This I believe is the 2nd longest named variation on Chess.com
Here is another very loooong variation from the Grünfeld Defense:
This is called:
Grünfeld Defense: Exchange, Spassky, Main Line, Sokolsky Variation, 14...Bxa1 15. Qxa1 f6 16. Bh6
This I believe is the 3rd longest named variation on chess.com. Please correct me if I'm wrong! Also what is up with Spassky being in all these long variations?!
This is perhaps the longest variation of opening theory I've ever seen. It's called "Ruy Lopez Opening: Marshall Attack, Modern, Main Line, Spassky Variation" and only occurs after 19 moves.
