My engine? It was suggested he beat Chess.com Stockfish, but nothing happened.

Very good observation. Let's see some games of LT against Chess.com SF.

Did not I beat the hell out of you, Mcris?

I won 3 games against your different top engines LIVE ONLINE, did not I.

So why are you ijg-talking then?

Excuse me, but your games tab is empty. So what games are you talking about?

The ones I won on the 'Stockfish is blind' thread against your computer.

Man, I am writing books now, I can not do everything.

You want me to get 2 years of my life to get the GM title, but then I will not write the books.

The books are more important for me.

Assuming he is right and really can beat the worlds best computers, I would think that is more impressive than beating the worlds best human players. Afterall, he did say he is seemingly much stronger than Nakamura. Since most people agree computers are now better than humans at playing chess it seems to me there is no reason to wait for any better competition. If he wants to make a few bucks by selling a book it might make more sense to skip that whole process and instead beat the worlds best computers, accept the fame, glory, boatloads of money, speaking engagements, calls from Guiness World Records, etc. and just call it a day.

I promise to make use of that very reasonable suggestion, just not now.

The books I am writing now are much more important to me.

I don't see any reason to continue the debate.  The man claims he easily beats Stockfish.  Nobody believes it.  If his claim was true, it would be inconceivable that he would decline to simply play a match against the engine, proving himself right and his many critics wrong.  If his claim is spurious, he is better off being disbelieved than by playing the match and proving his critics right.  Therefore the match will never happen.

Why should I go both mine and your way?

I have walked mine: written books that prove my excellent chess skills.

Do your homework, walk your part of the road and try to understand the concepts in 'The Secret of Chess' and 'Human versus Machine'.

I guess I will take a bit of a break from this thread: it is sufficient that my book sales are in a slump again, I don't need to be additionally punished.

Pity: ne sus proices margaritas.

No, you are writing a lot of crap on a chess forum.

This became a small talk thread: I started it as a substantive thread, and it became small talk...

So now that he’s gone, what should we do on this thread?

I will be back with a vengeance. happy.png

At some point, to continue the creative discussion and not to do talk-smalking.

There are so many websites that contain chess book reviews.  Is the @smurfo blog the only place that has a review of The Secret of Chess?

LT, have you sent a review copy to any book review sites?

Perhaps we can suggest reviewers we admire to review it.

Also, I would enjoy if NM Ben Johnson would have LT on his Perpetual Chess Podcast (a podcast I HIGHLY recommend). https://www.perpetualchesspod.com/

(Does NM Johnson have an account here????)

Hi GWTR,

many thanks for all your suggestions.

I would appreciate any help in finding potential reviewers, by anyone.

I guess it is hard to find such, though. Mr. Smerdon is one of a kind man, it takes a lot of intelligence, open-mindedness and humanity to do like he did.

I have sent review copies to a number of persons, both for 'The Secret of Chess' and 'Human versus Machine', but so far Mr. Smerdon is the only one who has done something. I also have a short review for 'Human versus Machine' on the "Expert Chess Strategies" site.

Open-minded people are few and far between, and besides, the book is very difficult to understand, even by GMs, if you don't simply believe in the concepts. I would myself NEVER been able to do it, if it had not been for the invaluable help of the top engines in assessing different lines and scenarios, as well as the abundant statistical infromation, mainly from top engine games. So that, I am a coauthor, on a par with SF and Komodo, though all creative ideas are mine, of course.

That is what I am dreaming of: someone paying a bit of attention to my works, as I have spent an awful lot of effort on them, cumulatively. For the time being, it is only Mr. Smerdon.

I am very busy at the moment: I am writing my 4th book this year, and all this takes a lot of effort.

One way or another, I will have to do a rewrite/add example games to 'The Secret of Chess', so that more people are able to understand what actually is going on.

I have a lot of ideas, but no time at all...

I would not like this thread to morph into a small-talk one, so here my Christmas puzzle to you:

Black to play and win.

This is one of my composed positions.

The only question that matters, that anyone cares about is "Does it work?"Lyudmil_Tsvetkov the burden is on you to prove that does to me a potential customer. To start submitting your proof you should at least have achieved a strong rating 2200 blitz ((minimum) on this website. Chess.com has a fantastic statistical breakdown of your results... be a man and take the risk of being proven right or wrong and play 100-300 blitz games on here and let us see chesscoms stats of you. If you cannot do something as simple as this I deem you a intellectual troll at best

Burke

This started out as a "Hey I wrote a book, how about buying it?" Then it was, "Hey no one is buying it. Why not?"

Some people answered him and gave him good reasons why maybe no one was buying his book.

Instead of saying "Thank you" and taking another route (maybe showing some content from the book so people might get curious) he chose to pick fights with the people who tried to help him. Not a good idea. Then he went on long enough for pfren to get involved and most of know that pfren knows what he's talking about. Game over.

"Other chess reviewers have been at best dismissal and at worst harshly critical of The Secret of Chess, by Lyudmil Tsvetkov. However, according to GM David Smerdon [@smurfo], this book is a one of a kind work that legitimately has the potential to revolutionise how we think about chess."

To which "[o]ther chess reviewers" is GM Smerdon's referring?  Amazon?
