The Unsung Heros of Chess, Part 1: The Flagger

Well flagging is an important skill, short term and long term in speed chess. The reason there may be underrated blitz/bullet players (compared to otb) is because those players haven't learned how to flag - after they do, chess.com speed ratings rarely are deflated in either category.

I agree Cherub. If one controls time, they control their destiny.

Says the person who has over 7000 points.

7000 good points over a few years, as opposed to 1500 spam points over a few weeks.

Don't mess with Whip_Kitten, she looks like a Dominatrix to me.

Anyway, it's definitely something to think about.

I see the Flagger is getting shunned in the forums once again. I feel like this needs to be brought to attention.

at last! the truth comes out!!!

I'm still confused why people even call them the flaggers. You automatically lose when you run out of time; the other player did nothing to make you lose on time. Accusing someone who wins against you on time is like accusing someone who checkmated you, but stupider.

Although I don't have a strong opinion on this one way or the other....I really don't give a (bad word) about on-line chess; the "problem" that others experience could be "solved" by having a new stat on the home page called "percent flag wins". Then if somebody is high in that category you can choose to block them and just play others.....gives more chess "freedom".

However, it's not their fault that their opponent couldn't manage time wisely. There is nothing wrong with winning on time because it is entirely your opponent's fault. Therefore, (un)lucky people would be unfairly discriminated against because of their opponents.

That can be true in some cases but there are people that mindlessly move their pieces around in an obviously drawn endgame (in OTB you can just call the director over and explain it and they will usually call a draw) ,or when they see their opponents clocks low....I can see why that ticks some people off and to make their "non-flagger" experience more pleasant just allow them to block "flaggers" over a certain percentage....and it really doesn't "punish" anybody because they can just play other "flaggers".
