Why is it whenever I offer or accept a challenge (not a rematch) I am white? I'm hoping to play black sometimes and can't seem to figure this out. I play on a phone and not laptop if that makes any difference. Any help would be appreciated!

The explorer says that you've played 10 games of each colour (even though you've played 23 games - it's not perfect) and of your current games, also exactly half are of each colour. I'm a bit confused...

People like you make me want to stop going for the U.S. presidency

OK - I think I spaced out when I started this thread. For some reason I thought I'd played many more games as white. Still - is there a way to designate color when issuing a challenge?
ChessOath

It's the option right next to the number of days per move. I'm not sure how you can miss it. I'm talking about V2. IDK about V3.

Pro tip: Posting while under the influence of foreign substances is dangerous.

Pro pro tip: Forgetting half of the games you play is Gods way of telling you to step away from the bottle.

You can only specify color in unrated games.

Martin_Stahl

Hmmm, that appears only be true for Live.

^ good to know - thank you! I was driving myself nuts trying to figure this out. And thanks to ChessOath for the help, too!

I took a screenshot of what I see when I issue a challenge but can't figure out how to post it. there is no option for selecting color.
ChessOath

He meant you can only choose your colour in the "live" games (not what you were talking about) when the game is unrated. You can choose your colour in both rated and unrated "online" games.

There certainly aren't any stupid or ridiculous questions.

By the way, this has been bugging me lately...  Well, can a person eat there own head?

Martin_Stahl

Clarification, in Online/Daily you can choose your color. In Live, if you want to choose your color you have to change to Unrated.

Pre1236

when I get to work tomorrow I'll look at it. this site seems to be very different on an actual computer than it is on my phone.

Martin_Stahl

I was looking at Live and Online/Daily from my phone browser for what it is worth. My first comment was because I thought both types required unrated games to choose color and I found out I was incorrect.
