In my view, I think 4 player chess is meant to simply "extend" the chess board, so more players can take the spot to play. From what I can see, not only there are more players, the whole entire board and its various positions are much more complex. Each 4 opponents get to crush each other, being more like other 4-player games. I think 4 player chess is a fun variant, how about you, buddy? 
It's a fun variant. But the gameplay is VERY different compared to regular chess.
I just attempted to play a few games of 4 player chess and had absolutely no idea what was going on. Is there anyone out there who enjoys the game and can explain whats good about it?
