- connected and passed 3 pawns will win usually if at endgame
- unconnected is a race or depends on kings
- you can't mate with a N or B. A queened pawn can.
- early to midgame with other stuff on board, the pawns are likely to fall and the piece will win.
Which is better? Obviously, the answer is that "it depends," but what is the general theory?
