He was a raving lunatic. The one and only time I met him was a couple of years ago and he was telling me (like "in your face" telling me) that chess was dead because it would be solved in "no more than a year" due to hash tables being used.
That was about two years ago. Maybe he just broke down. Or maybe he was taken down by the CIA...

Excellent stuff in here including a cool photo of him and his minivan with interesting stickers towards the end (page 55) for those who are interested in this highly intelligent and at the same time lunatic of a man. I truly hope that Tim was not eliminated by the Feds.

Anyone know what happened to Tim Tobiason? He used to own a chess website and sell great bargain priced chess CDs/DVDs (I bought a set) at major tournaments. Prior to that he sold stuff at gun shows before getting banned, and published books on starting anthrax attacks, on how to recognize when government agents were tracking you, and much more (he also had a close to 1800 peak USCF rating). Government was after him and he became exceedingly paranoid. Craziest guy I have met in my chess life (and there is no shortage of lunatics in our wonderful chess world). Last I heard, he was designing a chess engine, but his interesting Toby Chess website is no longer online. If the government got him, I will become very paranoid.
