Tips to improve at chess:

Chess is a great game. Here are some tips to improve in chess:

- If you think you found a great move, keep searching, and you may find one better, as long as you have enough time on your clock.

- Always check for prophylaxis on your turn, to basically anticipate and prevent any of your opponent's plans or attacks.

- Use Bobby Fischer's rule: If any of your opponent's pieces are on your side of the equator(split the board in half, it's your 4 rows), or attacking any piece on your side of the equator, you must neutralize this threat; you must stop that threat immediately.

- All strong players agree that studying tactics, and doing tactics puzzles daily will make a chess player very strong. You can do unlimited tactics puzzles online for free. They also mention that studying openings(theory), middlegame strategy, and endgames(theory), make a player strong, but ALL strong players agree that solving tactics puzzles daily will make a player extremely strong as it makes your calculation ability very strong. Some chess authors have mentioned also, that there are some IM level or GM level players who never studied chess, but have genius level calculation ability, so they can get into a complicated position, and out-calculate their opponent, and win even.

- Some strong players have mentioned, in blitz, mainly (g5), it is good to move every 5 seconds, but make sure it is a good move, or at least an okay move.

- Some strong players have said to get the most out of every move: gain an advantage, see if you can improve a piece, make your position more secure, or king safer, can both defend and improve positionally.

- If you play very defensively with prophylaxis in mind, you have a great chance at drawing any game.

- Some strong players have said, don't even touch your piece on your move, until the entire line you want to play is crystal clear in your head.

- Try to have strong central control, with pieces on good squares, and your king safe, and pieces active, and a space advantage. This makes playing easier for you.

- There are many strong GM games that are online with analysis for free on youtube, etc. so you can learn from them. They give you GM level ideas and studies.

- Both World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju and Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa teach that you should be able to think deeply about chess to play like a super GM!

- One of legend Mikhail Tal's teachings was rapid development. Develop your pieces quickly into the game and get them active.

- One great piece of advice is to take it easy, and play chess for fun, not worrying about the results, that way there is no pressure on you. Enjoying this beautiful game for fun is a pleasure! That way you will always be happy!
